A DDoS is a distributed denial of service. The keyword here is DISTRIBUTED. It means there are A LOT of requests to the server all at once, which OVERLOADS the server.

When you login after being disconnected during a DDoS attack, you are CONTRIBUTING to the problem. You are OVERLOADING the server as well.

When there is a DDoS massive disconnection, stay calm and WAIT for 10 minutes before logging in again. The reason WHY DDoS disconnects can happen for hours is because EVERYONE is logging in at the same time after the first DDoS, and that causes ANOTHER DDoS. So PLEASE STOP.

This might be a silly question, but is it a common troll thing to only have WHM and crafters/gatherers leveled? I've seen it mentioned a few times but didn't know it was a thing that trolls did.

It's not a specific thing that all trolls do.

It is a known pattern for a particular forum troll to use with their various alts they keep making as they create new characters to get around bans. It's very rare for a character not to have at least a few combat jobs unlocked (though not necessarily leveled).

This forum avatar was connected to that troll several months ago as it was created to parody another forum regular at that time to stir up drama.
