They help because they want to.
They're a nice fairytale that we all tell to each other and the number of them goes down every time someone queues for an EX trial synced while still in Artifact Armor and all they do is use Cure 1 and Medica 2, all while yelling at the only person in the duty who wants to give advice about how to avoid mechanics or prevent enrages from happening.

Filling an EX party is not the only way to be a mentor. There are mentors out there all around you but you'll never notice them because they're not trying to draw attention to themselves. They simply help where they see a need and can.

Yeah, I know that. I'm telling you the most demoralising thing that happens in Mentor Roulette as the reason why people who were originally doing it for the joy of helping people end up just wanting the 2k runs to be over with as soon as possible.

I am not seeing that toxicity. Occasionally you get someone toxic but that happens crown or no crown. Personal’y I’d like the crown to go away. It’s not needed to help and it’s just ostentatious.

Only reason I get mentor status is the roulette which I like as I get varied duties from it, including some duties which are rarely seen with regular roulettes. Most of the time though, no one needs help as they are primarily just a filling roulette. Sometimes you get thrown in a duty you haven’t seen since a very long while too and are not too sure of what’s coming next.

Outside the roulette which gives you no choice, I keep the crown turned off. I don’t see why there is no such roulette available to anyone who has completed the game and unlocked the optional dungeons (I’d just remove the extremes): it’s fun and it helps filling groups as it makes one available to fill anything.

As for extremes in the mentor roulette, they are occasional only and it’s essentially ARR extremes due to how the unlock system works as it gives the impression that it’s just another duty to the new player. Apart that, it’s Rathalos ex and a few very rare HW ex. Got Shinryu once and that’s it. Getting an ex with mentor roulette can be fun when people listen and want to learn or it can be a total nightmare if people just want to run like chickens with their heads chopped off. It wouldn’t be a bad thing to completely remove them and instead have the game point new players at party finder: that way you are sure to get a group that is at least interested

I mean, "disband the party and come back with better gear" is totally a valid method of giving advice.
