3v3, 5v5 and 8v8 large scale instanced arena sounds fine to meApart from larger-scale Company Vs. Company battles, we prolly won't be seeing much open-world PvP in FFXIV, seeing how it relates more to the lore and storytelling. And i partly hope SE won't make open-world, as it is quite a difficult concept to uphold and satisfy large numbers of players.
There never seems to be a satisfying level of roaming NPC monsters in correlation to PC opponents. Nothing is more frustrating in an open-world PvP game, than not being able to opt out of PvP when you just want to explore or do quests in certain areas. And what it comes to pure PvP, nothing is more annoying than a bunch of low-lvl mobs running behind you casting random debuffs, when you try to challenge a worthy opponent face-to-face.
With the new graphic engine, we'll be able to see over 40 characters on screen in 2.0, so I'm hoping large scale pvp and pvpve is actually large scale. Like 40v40 large.

Blitzball and coliseum would be cool![]()

I was hoping Frontlines worked as GCvsGC and whoever is winning would benefit other players in that zone of the same GC, similar to Conquest in FFXI, but different in it's own right.
Too bad everyone chose The Immortal Flames like a sheep and it would be unbalanced as hell.
Sorry to necro---------------------
* PVP flagging is a great method for introducing world PVP.
* Anyone against it is tacitly in favor of limiting other players' experiences.
* Those who don't want to be bothered, don't flag.
* The comment about twink PVP being good for the economy is epic truth.
QQ'ing about lore? Companies should only ever work together to accomplish a common goal?
Those things SHOULD be true in real life, too. Sadly, people don't always get along. Get real?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
PS) Making zones specifically for PVP (with no flagging system) sucks the fun right out of it.
(IE- walk into zone, get nuked by campers at every gate before you even get started)
With the coming of Free Company system, and PvP (Though, it is still vague on what kind of PvP are we looking at here), I hope to god it is not another Capture The Flag sort of thing, or NPC Sieges, or even Ballista from XI (God, that shit was BORING).
I would like SE to consider this several ideas, if not immediately on the release of 2.0, but on future updates and patches after 2.0, is this:
That is all on top of my head now, I will come up with more after arriving in Ishikawa, Japan. ^^ (At the airport) Please give some feedback or discussion.
They should also do what Blade and Soul does where you can flag yourself for PvP which means anyone can attack you who is also flagged. And vice versa. So you can have duels on the fly, and not have so many scheduled rules etc. Which won't happen, i know, because S.E. likes rules too much, but it should anyway.
Sorry, no open world PvP for Final Fantasy. Yoshi-P confirmed it already.
Why a twink for PvP? You don't need a twink here. Just make a gear set for PvP.
Not if it done rightPS) Making zones specifically for PVP (with no flagging system) sucks the fun right out of it.
Arena PvP could be like: "In the right corner we have the 8 man white team and in the left corner the 8 man red team. Ready? FIGHT!"
A flagging system is the easiest way to make PvP. And they can always add additional, structured PvP content on top of it.
the easiest way is not always the best way.
Is there a way to implement PvP only skills with a flag system (to let be pve skills unaffected)?
With a PvP that is only in a specific area they can gives the skills other effect then they would have outside the area. So they can separate PvP balancing from PvE balancing.
Like War of Emperium in ragnarok online. Magic damage reduced to 50%, reduced evasion rate, no push-back effects in the castles, some skills works on enemies and friends both (like traps) and some skills can't be used in the castles after all (like Ice Wall).
