As a toolset, it is far more productive, and becoming increasing precise at an alarming speed. Businesses are already building marketing teams around it because of it's tailored outreach capabilities.

Last year, AI art was still making pictures with 6+ fingers. Now? It's making photorealistic videos with moving people. We are now getting political ads using AI. You can keep saying AI art is "nothing" but it's literally not going anywhere and artists need to start utilizing it to stay ahead or they will find themselves out of business faster than they usually are. When it comes down to it, productivity (and the returns of) surpass all in the business world.
See, the funny thing is people said the exact same thing about every single overhyped tech trend that ended up fizzling out. AI still makes potentially fatal mistakes because it can't think. Sure, telling depressed people to go jump off Golden Gate Bridge is funny in a dark way but what happens when it gives bad medical advice and actually kills someone? Or when it causes traffic accidents? Or when it causes someone to lose all of their life savings? Until you manage to mitigate all hallucinations and teach the computer critical thinking skills, it will never be what many people claim it already is.

It's a neat tool for some things, but it fails miserably when faced with tasks that require creativity, too. Political ads really aren't the best example - they are all incredibly paint-by-numbers.

I don't think it will fully go away. I do think it will continue to be a useful tool in some industries (I know programmers love it because it helps them write code more effectively) but other than that, it's a massively overblown bubble gassed up by how capitalism works.

You see what you described is at base, a very surface level commercial portrayal that people against AI have harped on.

AI is already being used by hedge funds to predict market flow in the stock market and trade actively.
AI is already being used to impersonate people, voices and videography. (IE Darth Vader, Kanye West, Politicians etc)
AI is actively being implemented in all medical surgical fields to enhance outcomes. It's already completing surgeries.
AI is already integrated into marketing strategies that tailor advertisements of product lines to thousands of recipients, scrapping info from various sites on a given customer.
AI art is actively being used in production lines around the world. It is far faster to generate thousands of models/art whether 2d or 3d using AI by simple word prompts.
AI is being used to design chip boards now, allowing for more space and power to be utilized.
AI is being used to supplement nerve damage in humans to restore body function.
AI is being used for resume building, job applying, checking applicants etc
    and alot more.

All in all, it's not going anywhere. It's not a fad like NFTs. It's already been implemented in so many ways and it's growing exceptionally fast in every single industry especially in all aspects technology. The AI is actively improving upon tech designs and thus making itself more capable with time. People think it's crazy far away but fully fleshed out AI-driven robots (with the uncanny valley removed) that people can own are likely within 10 years. 15 max.
