"We depicted Wuk Lamat as someone who had a bit of a complex towards her parents and also towards her siblings, and because of that lack of confidence, I think that also contributed to the slow pace and the feeling of frustration. If we had maybe portrayed her as more of a confident character, maybe we would not have encountered that kind of situation."
This was just disappointing to read. I kind of expected the whole "PR Talk" given they have to acknowledge the Wuk Lamat stuff eventually, but this sounds REALLY out of touch. Yes, Wuk had a lack of confidence and inferiority complex whenever she compared herself to Zoraal Ja and Koana and Gulool Ja Ja...and that was all completely resolved by the end of the Giant's area in the MSQ when she cranked that "I LOVE PEACE" knob to 12 and did nothing but ride with that the whole time and was constantly rewarded for it. Yoshi and the devs/writers really don't seem to understand why people dislike Wuk so much if they genuinely believe the main reason is "we didn't write her to be confident enough in herself." Wuk was written by the devs/writers to be a "Black Hole Sue" character from the start, and was written a story made exclusively for her to be shown just how perfect she was in every way as everything warped to accommodate her. It also doesn't help that as a result of this, pretty much every single character was either overshadowed or warped to become a generic "yes man" character for Wuk.
Remember when Krile was hyped up during all the Keynotes to be playing a big role? Let's make it so all the characters constantly tell her "no" for the 1st half of the story when she asks any question, then just randomly throw a "Krile backstory" via the echo as she finally learns about herself OFF-SCREEN, and then finish with a short and small moment at the 97% mark of the MSQ for a few minutes with her parents...but lets also make Wuk complain the whole time during this small part because "ha ha wuk dumb so learning things hurt brain." Hell: Cahcuia, who was introduced at the halfway point of Zone 5, had more spoken lines during her time in zones 5/6 then Krile had during the ENTIRE EXPANSION.
Ahem...either way...
Hopefully this interview was just a "we're still trying to find a more proper way to address the issues" because if they do write Wuk to be "more confident", but decide to keep writing the story at the exact same quality that they delivered in the MSQ, then I don't have much hope in the post-patch story at all as it'll just show they're really out of touch and tone-deaf to the issues.
Dawntrail did you dirty girl, it did you dirty.
not putting too fine a point on it but....
they copied aspects of WoW to dig 1.0 out of the crater it found itself in after release.
they seem to still be copying tone deaf responses that WoW perfected for years
according to that formula.... 8.0 will be a gut punch to players and there will be no course change until, like WoW (who apparently has now had a good expansion, unfortunately for people like me.. too little too late) they are teetering on losing what little good will they have left and are bleeding out Japanese subs like a main artery was hit, then... maybe they will have a good expansion.
because deep down... they still seem to be following the WoW formula
hang on kiddies... we are not anywhere near rock bottom....yet

I think "it was too slow" and "Wuk Lamat should've been more confident" are the wrong conclusions to make from this.
A lot of the issues with Dawntrail come from the fact the pacing is too fast. It's why they feel the need to spell out so many things to the player, because they don't have the time to make sure the player doesn't blink and miss all this new information without being super "tell over show", and even then there's a lot of stuff the player still misses. It's also why the second half especially feels so undercooked.
My honest opinion is that Wuk Lamat is a good character with a lot of potential who got screwed over by a rushed story. Her starting out insecure isn't the problem, and the writers shouldn't be afraid to give their characters flaws. Flaws are part of what makes a good character, because without them the character has no internal conflict. They wanted to tell the story of someone living in their family's shadow and going from false confidence to true confidence. Having her already be confident at the start would defeat the whole purpose.
This "she stole the show" criticism doesn't make sense to me. Did the Exarch steal the show when he sealed Elidibus in the Tower? Did the Scions steal the show when they shielded the Warrior of Light from the Endsinger? We're still in the fight even after she breaks in. It's not like we get kicked out.
"If we had maybe portrayed her as more of a confident character, maybe we would not have encountered that kind of situation"
Sounds like he's the one that has no confidence on what he's saying.
He probably doesn't even know these forums are still active, so no point on giving actual feedback, but the problem with the story wasn't "her lack of confidence". It should be pretty clear for anyone who went through DT. So I'm guessing he hasn't.
I don't remember the Exarch interrupting mid trial. If anything, he earned that moment between the dungeon and the trial for being a well liked and well written character. Same as the Scions and the Endsinger. They getting ported back to the Ragnarok was a clever twist so you could get Zenos' help. And then, happens what everyone was expecting at the end of the dungeon, the Scions helping you.
Wuk Lamat shows up out of nowhere, insert herself into the actual fight as a 9th player and the post battle payoff is her and Sphene, unlike with Meteion, Emet, Elidibus, Thordan, Zenos.

wtf are they smoking lol
not only that... but what kind of mental gymnastics are they going to have to do to convince us... to do whatever saving needs to be done next time?
they can just have the Wukkie do it as far as I am concerned. let whatever homeless waif go ask her for help in saving the world. I am on vacation and she is obviously more powerful. if we needed help then quite obviously... she is more powerful than us... and any god/eikon we have faced.... and I say.. "have fun catgirl... now bugger off"
