I'm very disappointed by YoshiP's answers. I actually wish this read as more "PR speech", as in, not being specific about the questions and not giving out excuses, but instead, some of the things he said actually sound like he is completely out of touch with the feedback people have been giving constantly.
I don't ever see anyone, in any social media, complaining about Wuk Lamat's "lack of confidence". I barely even see the "complicated relationship with her parents" in the actual story, let alone in any reaction from players.
The excuse of "oh, of course it was going to be mixed, it came after a long 10-year old story after Endwalker!" sounds like just the excuse Dawntrail defenders give when we say we didn't like how the story is written - and that every single person criticising the story said it DOESN'T MATTER. Now we can be sure this is going to get repeated more and more in the future. "See, even YoshiP said so! Your expectations were off!"
No one was expecting an epic finale like Endwalker, everyone was expecting something low stakes that was at least as decently written as A REALM REBORN. The majority of criticism is about quality of the writing in general, balancing of character's screentime, and yes, pacing, but not in the way he addressed it.
I've been reading the recent interviews coming out of gamescon, and for me the way YoshiP talks about the MSQ (in the very few times he said anything about it), sound...incoherent. Like he didn't play the final version and he is only talking about the early character concepts he had to approve, without going through the actual text.
I understand he wouldn't throw his team under the bus, but at least addressing these concerns indirectly, or not giving excuses that had nothing to do with the actual majority of the feedback, would've sounded better in my opinion.
