Yoshi-P tells PC Gamer that he is "not shocked" by mixed DT reception

Should just pretend wuk isn't even a part of the story and not even mention her in the patches.

There is nothing to attempt to redeem after 7.0 so they might as well just bring in a new character to replace her and move onto a new story arc with The Key without her dragging the WoL down.

It will probably take us a few expansions to have one anywhere remotely close to shadowbringers in quality. More likely we will have stormblood or heavensward quality.

I'm not expecting anything on the level of Shadowbringers or Endwalker, since part of what makes them as good as they are is all the things that came before and build up to them... But I do except something on the level of ARR, but we're far below that on the MSQ.

I consider DT to be well below ARR, HW, and SB. It has all the pacing issues ARR did but does not build toward anything, the worldbuilding and lore are all incredibly one dimensional, the character writing is abysmal, and there is no tension. We haven't even moved on from the previous arc since everything still seems to tie back to Amaurot and the Ascians.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks of the story so far to be way worse than ARR. At least we were a 'budding' adventurer or something in ARR, now I might as well not be there at all. I kinda feel insulted for having to be dragged along this circus of a story.

Having opinions is fine and dandy but when your shitty twitter takes start to affect the money... Squeenix is not going to tolerate that.

Well, he's acknowledging that they fell short in some areas, so I guess that's something. But he's still not really acknowledging the real issues I've seen brought up again and again. DT was never going to be as good as ShB and EW, but it didn't need to be. I was perfectly happy with getting something like StB or HW again, I still really enjoyed those expansions. But we got something far worse than those. I would happily play all of ARR again and never skip a single cutscene before playing through DT again. I am actually dreading taking any of my alts through it. It's not "oh, well, entertainment is subjective, so we knew some people wouldn't enjoy this as much," it's just a badly told story filled with such amateur writing mistakes that even most students in an Intro to Creative Writing college class wouldn't make them.

And yeah, Wuk Lamat's problem isn't that she's wimpy--it's normal and expected for characters to start out weaker and grow stronger over the course of their journey. Her whole motion sickness thing was annoying and unfunny, but that's not the source of her problem. Her problem is that chart above my post. Her problem is every other character was shoved aside to make more room for her. That is going to build resentment in just about anyone. I started the game liking Wuk Lamat from her introduction in 6.55 and was excited to see where her journey would lead. I thought she was cute and would be a nice lighthearted change of pace. By the midpoint I was a little annoyed at her hogging the stage, but withholding my judgment because I wanted to see what they were cooking with her. By the time the credits rolled at the end, I never wanted to see her again.

100% agree. I mean she ranks below Zenos for me at this point, and I loathed his every appearance. sure, he had 'characteer' and I knew he had a place... but he also didnt take up ALL the screen time. In the beginning she wasnt bad, by the end with her having to be in -every- cutscene... I was wishing someone else would kidnap her...

I really hope this is PR speech, else that means they did not understand the reception is what it is, and it's not a good thing. It's not about being the thing after a big arc... I mean, even part of the people that liked Wuk Lamat agree she suffocated every other characters. And that's only one of the many problems with DT.

And if it is PR speech, I wish they had chosen a better justification than the justification that has been shot down everytime it's mentionned. Is that supposed to reassure us? Because nobody that complained will be reassured by that. On the contrary it push further the idea the team is out of touch with the public.

Can't agree more. I wanted to like Wuk, but they at once gave her far too much time... and did nothing with it.

Other characters, side characters, got more development in a quarter of the time. In this expansion alone you have the Arcadion cast, END carried all of Venat's and Hermes development, ShB was a spit-shine for everyone, StB was clumsy but did Lyse and Hien both, HW was the bulk of Estinien, Ysayle had a full arc..

I wouldn't mind Wuk nearly as much if her time was spent productively. As it was, she never really had a full personal arc, and actively stifled every other character's arc to... do nothing.

Like, ARR's cup ramen. It's servicable. Not great, but it's not catastrophically bad. HW's a bowl of mac n' cheese with a smoothie. Pretty good, nice enough. StB's a salad with hot sauce. It's clumsy, but you can see what they were going for. ShB and End are fancy dinners, maybe not to everyone's style, but you can appreciate the craft.

DT's handing you a pile of bones a cat gnawed clean already and telling you to make your own broth.

I thought the issue with Wuk was she's an overbearing, inconsistent character with no notable arc to speak of, and despite this takes up 95% of the screentime.

Dawntrail's writing is Juvenile, thats the issue.

I really hope this is a PR move. Call it copium. I'll wait to see what the patches look like before making a full on decision to buy another expansion.
