so you're just going to ignore all of the hostile wild life and bandits?
it's a gameand also I'm not sure if they think any higher rank would be appropriate for the WoL, who is supposed to be a daring adventurer. If I become Supreme Commander, then doesn't that mean I have to sit at a desk and do paperwork to manage all of the people under my command? I don't think the Grand Companies themselves would want their leader they are dependent on to be someone who constantly puts themselves at the brink of death and travels to other worlds/end of the universe.
This has been a "problem" with the entire Grand Company thing from the onset, so I don't think it's worth criticizing, since it was clearly never implemented with that consideration in mind to begin with.Pretty much all of Eorzea is at peace at the moment so the usefulness of the Grand Companies is debatable, and also I'm not sure if they think any higher rank would be appropriate for the WoL, who is supposed to be a daring adventurer. We're primarily members of a so-called politically neutral entity, and yet we're also captains of a specific city-state's military faction? Doesn't sound like a conflict of interest at all! Lmao
Anyway, the original plan for the final rank title was just "Champion", which doesn't really have any military connotations to begin with, regardless of whatever "responsibilities" may or may not have come with it, mechanically speaking. Either way, as I said, it never made that much sense in the first place, so whether it remains abandoned or they finally take it the rest of the way, it doesn't make much difference in the end.
Grand Companies will get an update probably when Squadrons do.
I understand the reason system is on hold ; however it doesn't means the GC should be dead until "someday maybe".
One way to move it would be sideways, like getting earning "optional" military medals for achievements/grind/etc linked to each GC for new rewards ; It would allow SE more freedom to expand the system without us becoming the military leader

yes medals would be pretty cool and could be shown on adventurer plate. I actually do care about the faction we call home, so hopefully some day it will get an expansion/overhaul.I understand the reason system is on hold ; however it doesn't means the GC should be dead until "someday maybe".

Or even next to your nameplate. That part is criminally underused, besides the mentor crown and looking to meld stuff. Plenty of stuff could be shown that way too.
IIRC, the last time this came up in an interview the answer was something along the lines of "since GCs don't really do much right now, there's no point in adding more ranks until we decided where to go with them."
Squadrons were probably always just a prototype for Trusts/Duty Support.
They won't touch content and features, which doesn't result in direct sales. They said that multiple times alreadyThey won't even bump exp from fates or side quests, they didn't even bother to innovate in Dawntrail with expansion content.
Maybe they could implement an Ai system for avoiding aoe attacks for the squadron, and knowing where to go, such as with the trust system, but not implementing the fluctuating damage the npcs like trust do. Then bumping their level cap up to 70. Along with us gaining the rank of Second Commander.
Then for the trust system, based on the WoL's own experience being a squad leader whose trained up soldiers for one or more of the grand companies, they could implement the tactics system as part of the leveling and dungeon/trial completion process for the trust npcs.
As being able to give the trust npcs something like offensive tactics 5 (60% damage boost) would certainly be more encouraging aside from the novelty of leveling up the scions.
As what I am talking about would certainly dovetail quiet nicely from the squadron system to the trust system.
