Items exist to be used, not to be hoarded.
Put things you're going to need in your retainer, like housing items, crafting materials, relic materials, relic armor materials, Deep Dungeon/Bozja currency, potions, maps, weapons that you can't turn in for seals yet, totems that you can't get the mount or desynth the weapons from yet, bait that you'll need for later, materia you know you'll need for later gear, maybe eureka logograms/bozja memories that you'll take out when you go into the instance later.
Inventory management isn't that difficult unless you have hoarding tendencies.

It would be nice if they stacked to 999 for sure. I stuff them onto my retainer as a sort of emergency fund and also use them for the weekly contribution in the Doman Enclave.

I believe that a lot of very rich people actually stockpile these as a way of going past the gil cap on retainers.

One stack of platinum pieces is ~10 million gil (10k each) and are the highest-value item that can stack to 999. That's why they're frequently going at a premium of like 12-13K while other currencies sell at or below their value on the MB.

There's also the fact that it's more convenient to sell 2 of them to the Enclave instead of 4 Clear Demimateria.

If someone has more than 2 billion raw Gil on their person/retainers, there is something seriously ethically wrong with them in some manner. It makes you wonder why they haven't fallen to greater evil and RMT-d it away, since even the absurdly expensive minions and mounts go for around 50M at most.

There's nothing wrong with anyone. It's just the way they want to play the game. Some enjoy seeing how rich they can get in a game and comparing to others who also enjoy wealth accumulation.

These items are best used for doman enclave, if that didn't exist then yes, I'd agree. It's inefficient to simply sell them. I'm sorry but I'm with OP here. I choose to keep these items to use (better use) them down the line, but I'm being scuffed for it. I don't think this even counts as hoarding since to me it's a waste to simply vendor them, I have a few chars that I can do this on, so yes- even if I didn't, why am I inconvenienced for wanting to save these currencies for a system that encourages you to keep this currency for later?

I'm confused. In what way do you feel the system is encouraging players to save them for later.

If I have 99 Allagan Silver Pieces now and I vendor them, I get 49,500 gil.

If I wait one year then vendor them, I get 49,500 gil.

There is no advantage to me by waiting to vendor them. I get the same amount of gil in either case.

I see more advantage in spending them now than holding onto them. The sooner I get the gil, the sooner I can invest that gil into making more gil. That's going to be way more valuable to me than hoarding the pieces to spend 2 years from now at Doman Enclave to only get double the value back (with a max of 20,000 gil at that). That's a pretty poor investment return in this game.

So, you'd rather 49.5k now rather than spread it on two weeks and get double the amount for literally no effort whatsoever?
At a max doman enclave you'd be burning through 40 Allagan Silver Pieces per week. That's just maybe alittle over 2 weeks of burning through that stack, in just two weeks it'd be 80k and if you burn through the entire thing then it's 99k.

What is this return on investment you speak of? The only investment I'm doing is being inconvenienced in my chocobo saddlebag (which is annoying at best, if anything I just want a neat saddlebag)? There's no time investment or effort in this at all.

I mean to each their own. I enjoy the passive/slow income and not having to fight people on the MB, it's why I like doman enclave and subs. It's not an ideal way to make gil but it's a waste not to use that system and the currency meant to be fed into it.

    Agreed, each to their own.

I didn't say not to make use of the Enclave. What I'm advising against is saving the excess. Put that excess to use for you now rather than let it use up inventory space.
