It will work if u can flag your character to PVP .. should have timer on it to disable it.. so u cant attack . run and disable it and cheat the system lol

I reckon PvP has the potential to strengthen and solidify the FFXIV economy as well as diversify the need for gear.
There are three prerequisites that i foresee in order for PvP to fullfill this much needed role:
1) Stats need to be relevant to each class beyond base damage on weapons.
2) Multi meld gear useable in PvP
3) PvP lvl brackets every 10 lvls:
a) 1-10
b) 11-20
c) 21-30
d) 31-40
e) 41-50
With these three conditions, players will have reason to use lower level gear with multimelds of the appropriate grade creating a huge demand for mult meld gear and materia of all lvls which in turn translates to a boon for the crafting community as much as the gatherers and spiritbinders.
And if the stats were better balanced, then we might see strategic statistcal builds develope that have a greater afect than stacking base dmg.

Open PvP is not coming. You need to be in a specific area for PvP.How about the new text command /pvp.
Can be used along with the subcommand on and off to activate or deactivate your PvP flag.
When your PvP flag is on members of the other Grand Companies can attack and be attacked at will.

The lvl brackets make the pvp intense at different levels and that way if someone or group of ppl dominate one level cap they wont dominate a different level cap.

I think I speak for the community when I say that we would very much appreciate a Dev/Mod response clarifying these aspects of PvP.

Also, it would be nice to have a system where you can register the specific name of the Free Company that you want to have open PvP with in the PvP Area. Basically a little button on the list saying "Declare War"

Let me just leave this here: Open world PvP was the reason I quit playing Ultima Online back in the days, and it's the reason I abhor PvP and any 'competition between players' gameplay at it's core. And I do not want any other beginning at MMOs to suffer what I did

Apart from larger-scale Company Vs. Company battles, we prolly won't be seeing much open-world PvP in FFXIV, seeing how it relates more to the lore and storytelling. And i partly hope SE won't make open-world, as it is quite a difficult concept to uphold and satisfy large numbers of players.
There never seems to be a satisfying level of roaming NPC monsters in correlation to PC opponents. Nothing is more frustrating in an open-world PvP game, than not being able to opt out of PvP when you just want to explore or do quests in certain areas. And what it comes to pure PvP, nothing is more annoying than a bunch of low-lvl mobs running behind you casting random debuffs, when you try to challenge a worthy opponent face-to-face.
