Sena Bryer is right: the hatred that Smile gets is highly problematic

I've been lurking around the Forums after the mixed reception DT was going through and eventually found myself having to bring my voice to the table. I was going to keep my opinions to myself but seeing people around my circle blindly defend Sena is starting to make me insane. For the sake of keeping this post on topic I'm going to just tackle Sena's absurd and quite frankly...*redacted* take.

The whole idea that Smile is a "Black Gospel" song is already questionable at best. It doesn't sound anywhere close to what I would call gospel music, like at all. If you think it does that one thing and I'm not going to bother trying to argue if it is or isn't. However, Sena had to take it a step further and make a very gross, dangerous, and stupid generalization that if you dislike/hate it you're a racist. And don't come at me with that "Sena didn't say that ought right or word for word" BS, anyone with reading comprehension can infer that is what Sena is implying. Not only is this just an outright reach but it's very disgusting and leaves an even more disgusting after taste in my mouth now, weeks later after being done with Dawntrail MSQ.

I'm just going to flat out say that this is just beyond deplorable on Sena's part. That's also not taking into account the other insane and asinine takes Sena has had in the past already regarding the Bridgett VA. People have different tastes in music, not everyone is going to like a song and are allowed to be critical of it. Look if you liked Smile then that's fine, if you didn't like the song that's fine. Like...if you like Taylor Swift's music then good for you I'm happy you like her music, but I personally don't like her music. I like The Beatles music more than anything and I understand some people don't like or hate The Beatles which is totally fine. People are allowed to have different tastes in music, and enjoy whatever he or she likes. But, if you're going to make a broad statement like "If you don't like this song/artist/band you're a racist" then you're on thin ice. NO ONE should have to put up with people like this that make disgustingly broad generalizations. I don't go out and around calling people who hate The Beatles disparaging things, that's just incredibly unhinged behavior which is what Sena is doing.

The thing that is most insane to me however are the people who just blindly defend Sena, and are unwilling to call out shitty behavior and antics that Sena is or has been pulling. Why? Why are you blindly defending a shitty person? I don't get it. The people who are blindly defending Sena and not holding Sena accountable are just as bad as the people attacking Sena imo. You all are doing no one any favors blindly defending someone who is by all definitions a disgusting individual with awful takes.

There is a lot of low quality VA work across all of DT. Not just Wuk but Cahciua, most of the Shaaoani characters, and some of the S9/Heritage found cast were notably bad. Even the scions themselves had notably worse performance and audio quality this time around.
I see no reason to subject yourself to it.

I'll likely do the same. I've been an English dub supporter for video games and anime my whole life. But for some reason English VAs for the past few years have felt compelled to show the world the kind of people they really are, and I'm just sick of it.

English VAs and localizers are in dire need of humble pie, and until they've been served a hefty amount of it I just can't bother supporting them anymore.

It doesn't have to take from only garbage voice actors. The models and data can be taken from anywhere (since all it needs is voice data) then tweaked to fit the role. It's still a ways off, but if VAs keep becoming more and more of a liability, there's no reason to just switch to a program which won't cause controversy.

All I've been seeing so far it's localizers complaining about "they're taking our jeerbs!" rather than doing any degree of self reflection and thinking "huh, maybe I should provide a work so well done AI can't replace it?"
