Honestly a quick fix would be to let piety effect damage and healing similar to how tenacity effects damage for tank (and brings passive mit which is slightly more useful then mp regen).

Either way you still don't want piety like you don't want tenacity so the ideal solution would be to rework how both works in future expansions.

Interesting, Piety could have a secondary effect where it scales damage and healing slightly with how full your mana is. Since it also regenerates that faster, feeding itself.

I mean the only reason we never need Piety is because we never have to actually heal. We just press an oGCD (which are free) after every big AoE hit or so. Imagine if we had to really heal, how fast we could use up mana. There'd be a use case for Piety.

Of course, that'd require a basic rethinking of how (and how much) damage is dealt to not only the tank but the group overall, and how it is individually targetted/dealt. But we could easily have a scenario where many-most of our GCDs are spent casting our normal, non-special, standard, filler heals/groupheals. Which to me is still worlds better than using a filler nuke in that GCD, conceptually!
This is interesting. How many aoe casts would you consider to be healing. As it stands now healers are casting more aoe heals than we did in endwalker. More succors, more helios and medicas. To the point where deaths in encounters can actually strain your MP. I'd say we're healing more now than anything in recent memory.

See, back in the dungeons at 690 gear and in EX1 in particular in 710 gear even I'd agree. I'm healing a lot. I have to actually use my AoE heals.

But then came EX2, and while the normal raids were okay, then came the Savage raids that use the exact same programmed-for-oGCD-healing damage setup as Endwalker or before raids. Big hits happen infrequently, at which point you use 1-2 oGCDs to cover them and then all good.

So yeah we are healing more, but for one not in the content it ought to be most noticable, but also just not nearly enough. I would argue that until my healing is >50% of my casting time, I don't feel like I'm playing a healer, I'm playing a DPS that happens to have a lot of healing instant utilities.
