On that note I will always root for Green Mage as a Tank with their emphasis on buff/debuff-oriented spells
Plus you can then make a light party of color mages

Least in WoW always wanted something like "beacon of atonement" for paladins.
For people who don't know. One of the priests healer specs Disciple have a buff "atonement" that they apply to people they heal, for then to heal them further when the priest deals damage.
While paladin have various beacons that makes certain heals hit a beaconed target as well as their main target. So a "beacon of atonement" would be a buff that heals a target when you attack an enemy.
Issue tho that the job would quickly be the go-to since dps matters over heals. Another being that the job would still need direct ranged/aoe heals or it wouldn't be useable in a multitude of fights for they would either be too far away from the enemy or ally.
We have Sage with Kardia, which you put on a target (usually tank for obvious reasons) and all your attacks cast a heal on the target.Least in WoW always wanted something like "beacon of atonement" for paladins.

Considering how poorly the healers are balanced currently (SCH+AST supremacy, WHM crying in corner, SGE idk exists I guess), I highly doubt throwing in not only a fifth healer but a ‘melee’ one at that would do anything other than making the entire role-balance fall apart. Either it dethroned SCH/AST (and we all know SE won’t let SCH give up it’s spot at the top lol) or gets thrown in the ‘no-raid-buffs’ bin with WHM/SGE
Dunno what the others were on about with WoW's Monk and Priest, when it had an actual melee healer with Holy Paladin.
They have a passive ability that increases heals the closer their healing target is to them. This combined with a melee damage kit and several close-range healing AoEs + cones made for a decently effective healer... whenever Blizzard balanced them correctly, that is.
I feel like a FFXIV equivalent would need more robust movement tools, but it's something I would not be upset to see.
My outline for a Chemist healer: https://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/threads/513527-Healer-Concept-Draft-Chemist
What's the point when they'll have a filler dps spell and a 30 second dot? Everything else will be a copy/pasted heal with little to no changes...
I dunno what a meless helaer would be like but the rotation would be VERY busy. If it was done I think it would require you to build up cooldowns by doing dps and then you proc an aoe heal. However it may feel too similar to dancer. And the reason why dancer doesn't do much healing is because it would immediately be preferable than playing an actual healer so i think that why dances msotly does damage buffs and has only 1 healing buff and 1 aoe shield, both with long cd so it cannot be spammed.
I don't see why not. OW Had Bridgette, WoW had fist-weavers. Many games have hosted what I'd call 'melee healers'. Whether they fit into the modern FFXIV mechanics or not isn't overly relevant to me personally as they still maintain BLM, a class based on doing damage by not moving as much as possible, in a game with mechs based on making you move as much as possible.
So, yeah, I don't see why it wouldn't be viable. May even be a good design idea to apply to old fan faves like Geomancer.
Everything can work.. even Range tank can work..
but there should be a reason why this job is melee and that job is a range..
this is the hardest decision that CBU3 need to think wisely.. we don't want job rework every 2 years no!!
we want solid foundation and RPG element presens
