If you think about what's going to be easiest to develop, it's feral souls. I would like to hope they use a limited job to bring back pet actions. But I don't think I want to be disappointed, so I'm just gonna assume it's feral souls.

i was thinking it was going to be feral souls as well once they started really showing them off. i'll be pretty disappointed as i was thinking it'd be like along the lines of beastmaster from WoW. i'm sure a lot of other people would think that as well.
i'd prefer if they were originally intending to do the feral souls concept that they just called it some sort of other new job idk. it most likely is that since that is the easiest thing to do.
i'm really tired of knowing what they will do just based on what is easiest. pretty disheartening.

Why is everyone assuming feral souls – a mechanism that relies on a device from another shard that isn't even available until late in the MSQ?
It would be horrible writing if we do
they literally make a point that using these beast souls is a bad thing in the raid series. our character is fighting to end it
If we go and use them as a beast master that would be really stupid
We have had access to other countries jobs from the start. We know from sidequest that feral souls were based on beast masters from another shard. Does this mean that we will get Feral Souls like what we have right now❓ maybe.
Personally I don't think we will get pets, I hope that I am wrong.

As much as I loved BST in FFXI, I don't think they'll be doing that here. With the whole feral souls thing been featured not only in the DT MSQ but also an integral part to the new Raids, I can see the devs going down that route.
It'll basically be Blue Mage but with different animations, different weapon and saying it's an ability rather than a spell.
As for the whole "It comes from a shard" - they'll probably make it start at level 90 and require you to go to Alexandria to unlock it.
I really hope I'm wrong and it does turn out to be a proper BST (like FFXI and other games) with a newly designed pet AI system the devs want to try out to use on other jobs in the future job rework, but then again I though Island Sanctuary (when announced) may be the precursor to instanced housing . . .

Not to mention that, in practice, this would mean either the devs have to design specific forms to coincide with each feral soul we collect -- or more disappointingly, the forms would be so generic as to be practically meaningless. The latter sounds more likely in this scenario, given the game's track record. And either way, this would make it nothing more than a physical combatant version of BLU. Which isn't without its appeal, don't get me wrong, but it's not exactly interesting lol.
I'm much more interested in seeing a more traditional approach, especially because it barely exists in the game now where it once did. I don't think it's impossible that the devs have a better grasp on how to at least improve upon the pet system within the game's constraints at this point.
They seem to be hammering hard that Alexandria's commodification, and consumption of souls is bad so I'm certain BST is gonna be more like the beast masters we've encountered in Bozja. Willing to bet it's gonna be like mounted combat, and each creature you can tame has their own rotational gimmicks, and there will be moments where you can fight along side your creature -- just like Lyon.
