Dawntrail, Endwalkers, and the Death of 2.0

reading your posts, OP, really gave me a deep catharsis. knowing that someone feels the way i do is very comforting.

the world of FFXIV used to be so utterly rich. knowing all it's little secrets is a double-edged sword. i think we were better off with a lot of things having an air of mystery that had us chomping at the bit for clues. to get our heads whirring. everything recently gets closed and shut as fast as it comes out, with nothing for a player to really sleuth about. it's sad and boring. the world used to feel so much more grounded and like we were a part of it.

EW even had the crappy time travel gimmick of Endgame, lmao.

My opinion is that defining this game's value 95% on its story is, and always has been, a mistake.

To be fair if we put the story aside the gameplay has plenty of problems in itself

But to add to the conversation i did notice how quick a lot of things happend at the later half of the Shadowbringer Story.
We learned about the End of the unsundered world about the "Final Days" and while i was sure we would encounter it outself that it would be initiated only a few patches later came as a surprise.
I expected atleast one more expantion until that would have happend. But no it came rather quick and in other threads it also got mentioned Endwalker as expansion would have profit from more time and space, it might have could have been two.
But as mentioned in the original post things apparently got rushed to an end. To finish the Story Arc.

in case of Dawntrail the future Story Patches will be important, in what direction will the future go?

You're totally not. That being said, I am left to wonder. How many times am I willing to see SE go side-ways before I stop putting years of my time in their hands. I adored everything up to Shadowbringers and I'm okay-ish with Endwalker, but how much time due I owe this situation? Am I being unrealistic in thinking it's unkind to expect 1 to 2 years of my life in order to course correct and fix this mess before 8.0?

Hypothetical, entirely, but does make me consider it more seriously.

Endwalker story is 10/10, Content is 6/10
Dawntrail story is 7/10, Content is to be seen but it looks like it's going to be at least 8/10 with exploratory zones, deep dungeons, V&C, and 2 ultimates being present.

This game is not dying.

Keep complaining until they do better. Why do you think gameplay improved so much? People were like "great story, but the gameplay was too easy" for EW and now we have more challenging gameplay. So it's not like they don't listen, it's like they can only hire competent people for one department at a time or something.

Not from what I've seen. There are some people complaining it jumped a bit too high and got too hard, but the vast majority of people seem to be lauding the gameplay this expansion.

When it was first announced that the Alliance raid was about the twelve I was somewhat excited, something I quickly came to regret.

Not only did it kill the mystery of the twelve and the entire religious system of Eorzea. They also somehow made it all about Venat again with the supposed gods just being some random people she knew.

It's kinda funny how Gaius' waffling in the Praetorium elevator from 10 years ago turned out to be completely true.
