If they nerfed the requirements for consumables the price would crash, if they did that I would stop bothering to level my crafters as I lose the monetary incentive to be self sufficient, that causes flow on effects in other markets as for example I’m no longer drawing on the materia market
I'd agree with your first point if I actually was making gil in any way from any of the content I do participate in. The only way for me to make gil is to engage in stuff I hate. And yes right now I have gil from the time I suffered through it. I hate the knowledge that if I just play the game to have fun instead of also having a fictional part-time job then I will no longer be able to play the game.

If the price crashes then that simply means that to the people crafting it and it's still worth their time and effort to sell it. That is still a market and people who enjoy simply making money for the sake of it can still do that or move onto other things to sell. Unfortunately, there is no perfect system that makes everyone happy because of how the game has already been entrenched in this design but I believe that those who are like me and enjoy this aspect of the content shouldn't have to play the part we don't like. I'd be even more happy with just removing food and pots altogether. What if I told you that you had to go play triple triad to get your crafting mats now? Triple Triad players rejoice, your content is relevant now and you have people to compete against!
