[Feedback] Wuk Lamat's English Voice

It's funny. Ghost of Tsushima got lambasted and accused by the usual suspects of cultural appropriation, because how dare a bunch of white men make a game based on another culture. But the Japanese loved it. The two game directors were even made honorary tourist ambassadors for the island of Tsushima, because of how much respect they paid to Japanese culture in their game.

Now 4 years later another studio filled with a bunch of white men makes a game based on Japan. But they throw a black man into the mix and suddenly "those" people who usually whine about cultural appropriation are quiet as a mouse. But the game is getting discussed on Japanese TV for all the wrong reasons, politicians have taken notice of it, and the author of the Yasuke book has been suspended from Nihon University.

Quite a stark contrast between the reception of both games.

It's an shield game developers are using to churn out slop for bad games, they don't actually care because if it made money to have no black people in games they would never add them same with white people, men, women, etc.
Literally all of this debate for AC Shadows has overshadowed them releasing literally the same slop again after what 16 years?

Sure AC isn't that great but ... tbh, it's still one of the best in its class. Until some other companies step up and provide an alternative, it will remain selling.

It's the same with FF14, a lot of complains about FF14 is valid, and while constructive criticism is welcome I was never a fan of the brainless doom talk, like "this game is dying, we should stop playing yada yada" (not saying you said that btw). And I'm always like ... sure, I agree, I think FF14 is getting stale, I'm ready to jump ship ... if there is another ship to jump to. For all its flaws, FF14 still remains one of the best option, there isn't much sense in jumping ship when there isn't a better ship to jump to, or jumping off the ship and land in the ocean.

Eh I don't care either way. It's a video game forum we are on. AC games are terrible slop I only ever buy them on sale to look at their historical settings and if they aren't accurate I find the gamr worthless, my passing interest in Shadows was interest in the setting and looking into the drama finding out it's not got good quality, so I don't care what happens to it whether its successful or bankrupts the company.

Try to keep things very black and white in my mind when it comes to video games. I couldn't care less about politics, if something's bad product I don't care anything about behind the scenes.
DTs voice acting sucked, literally don't care about the VA don't even know her name just think she did a shitty job. Same with the story, think the writer did a shit job, no idea who they are.

Too many people argue about terrible games just because they align or go against their political views. Actual moronic behaviour imagine fighting over a company which released a bad game because they pretend to agree with your political views, the same companies that talk about representation will sell to countries who are bigoted or partaking in genocide while they have you fighting for their rights lmao.

I really hope they decide to use AI. Enable it, and we'll start getting decent voice acting, characters and so forth.

But that does not change the fact that for almost a decade, FF14 had provided one of the best English dub in gaming with an all star casts of industrial veterans, many with actual theatrical training.

WL English VA is a mistake, and mistake can be pointed and hopefully corrected.

Sure, if it was just ONE bad performance, but man, this has been a massive problem for a while. I forget the game, but there was one recently where the English Voice Actors tried to throw their weight around to make changes, and the company said "No thanks. Bye." and just released it without any English VA.

I doubt he'll apologize for miscasting Wuk, or the bad writing, or the weird pacing, or the healer's complaints, or the graphics update issues. He'll probably apologize for having to either replace the VAs, delay the patch while waiting for VAs, or moving to AI for the VAs. That might be taken as a tacit apology for other things, but that'll be up to each individual to infer.

Hopefully they realize how much of a mistake it was hiring anyone from the SAG. Bunch of spoiled little egoists. All of them so much more well off than most of us and they don't even have to do much work. Which was bad enough, and fine.... I suppose. Till you see how much kicking and screaming they do anytime an AI flawlessly replicates their voice. They don't even allow fans to do it for free projects that nobody is making money off of. No, you don't own your own voice. People can mimic you, there's only so many sounds the human vocal cords can make before you run into clones of the same voice too. All rights to your voice are gone the second you sign up to be cast in a role using that voice, that voice now belongs to the character not you.

You notice in scenes where wuk lamat should be shouting, it's the same flat monotone manner of speaking as any other lines. And it's because the VA can't do a shouting voice while trying to pretend to sound like both a woman and a brazilian xD

Agree with everything you said except how well off SAG members are.

The majority of those in the SAG are people with day jobs hoping for a big break and were forced to join if they wanted future gigs because they spoke a few lines or appeared as an extra a few too many times. SAG has a stranglehold on pretty much every entertainment industry and of course, they don't want competition. To that end they'll actively seek to crush anyone who takes work and isn't a member. This leads to the top 5% of members getting the vast majority of the work while everyone else is clawing for the scraps.
