Wow, Wuk Lamat is really single-handedly ruining the DT story...

Getting closer to the end of the MSQ and I wanted to talk about the bit where we chase the kid.

Namely, I'm wondering if Wuk Lamat is actually meant to have some sort of personality disorder since she was deliberately written like this. Seriously? Gulool Ja overheard her saying she's going to kill his father, so her plan is to chase him across the map until he's cornered, then to talk at him until he understands that while Auntie Lamaty'i is going to make him an orphan, she'll always consider him family? As long as she gets to have her say, I suppose! I'm pretty sure I've seen slashers or thrillers with this situation except they acknowledge how terrifying it is to the kid. As horrifying as Zoraal Ja may be as a father, Wuk Lamat shouldn't come across as very trustworthy, either. Of course, then her Black Hole Sue aura kicks in and suddenly Gulool Ja wants to get to know Wuk Lamat too, as well as her found family, and WoL's found family (no, really).

The Alisaie I knew would have had no problem telling everybody just how messed up this is. Someone please come undo her tempering, I think my WoL is too far gone to care.

Every character who mentions her loves her, praises her and almost never mentions Koana.
I would laugh if it wasn‘t so sad.

It really does make me think they wanted to target this expansion at younger people. If true, they failed since the expansion is far to slow to properly capture that younger generation.

It'd be a questionable decision, though that's hardly out of character for SE. A lot of MMO players at this point(especially the older tab target subscription ones) are people that grew up playing them 10-20 years ago, and I don't see much new blood coming into the genre.

Okay somehow hidden blocks don't count towards the character minimum. 20+ years of forum technology existing....for the love of crispy tacos.

I thought that Gulool Ja assumed that Wuk Lamat meant that she intended to kill Otis, who has been more of a father to him than Zoraal Ja, which is why he was scared. When she clarified, then he opened up to her.

Wuk Lamat's problem isn't that she's a Mary Sue. That (and Gary Stu) can be applied to all the Scions who hardly have any flaws to speak of, and those that had them - most notably Al, Thancred, and Urianger - have has them dealt with. Doesn't mean it's not true, but it's not a condition unique to her alone. Lest we forget that the twins were supremely obnoxious when first introduced.

Wuk Lamat has two main flaws - she's not smart, and she's painfully sheltered. And neither make sense given her status and means. Her brothers have made it a point to learn about and experience their continent in their own way before we meet them, while she's basically just staying home and eating tacos. It's jarring, and it makes her travel sickness running "joke" all the more irritating. I actually yelled at my monitor when she was complaining about going back up river after the potsworn challenge WHILE THE VILLAGE'S AETHERITE WAS SPINNING IN THE BACKGROUND. Has she never actually been outside her city? Does she not know what aetherites do? It's dumb, and gnaws at my suspension of disbelief, especially since her thing is supposed to be the boundless love for her people and their diverse cultures. One would think she's at least gone on vacation once in her life.

IMO, she should've been more of a tour guide than Erenville, who hasn't been there for three years.

These problems are compounded by the MSQ being incredibly repetitive in structure. Arrive in a new area. No one knows what to do so they decide to help the locals. They stumble upon the perfect solution! You're so great Wuk Lamat! Your love for your people knows no bounds! Arrive in a new area. No one knows what to do....

There's no variation. It's just a narrative treadmill.

And, you know... I actually do appreciate the theme. That a culture that actually celebrates cultural diversity is something to strive for, and that our differences can make us stronger. But it's presented in the most boring way possible, with a coming-of-age tale for a character that's just irritating to be stuck with all the time.

Someone in Zepla's chat mentioned that the Scions have been reduced to being set dressing, and it's true. Someone in this thread mentioned that the WoL is not the main character, and that's also true. Wuk Lamat feels like someone's pet fanfic character, and we're all forced to go along on her journey. It's frustrating.

In some ways, I think Dawntrail is great. Viper and Pictomancer are fun. The new zones are probably the best they've designed. The music - as always - is great. I've had fun with the dungeons and trials. But the MSQ is a huge miss, and Wuk Lamat is a big reason why.

I‘m doing some sidequests right now and enjoy them but…
Man Wuk Lamat is mentioned in quite a number of them in one form or the other.

It’s getting really, really annoying at this point. No matter the character I can‘t imagine anyone being happy with this much.
Imagine if Cayde in Destiny was treated like that (not that destiny has a story in game)...

After yet another quest, that had me "Talk to Wuk Lamat" I jus burst out laughing. Not because it was so funny, but the sheer absurdity of this questline. I don't think it was possible to hate a bunch of pixels this much, but here we are....Glad I am almost done with....whatever this is.

It's kinda ironic how the message of peace, love and understanding backfired so hard, because they had to repeat the message at every possible opportunity, to the point players start to resent the character.

I also don't see how a duel with rubber bullets "decisively and finally sets their differences", which was supposed to be a unique idiosyncrasy of their culture that they were trying to move away from. Like... if we're having a fight and you shoot me with a rubber bullet, why is it final? I didn't die, does the bullet make me not-pissed? I guess you could say they used to be duels to the death, but they changed it to rubber bullets after law enforcement got established- but then, why do the npcs say "let's settle this the old way"? That's not the old way at all... is it?
I imagine they wanted to do Wild West, but then went "omg they might find this barbaric... we can't have a negative aspect to a subculture in this continent, they must all be perfect. Can you change it so we keep the duels but they're non-lethal?"
Everything in DT is so... sanitized.

And this was after Koana shot Bakool Ja Ja in the face several times with actual bullets... So I really don't get the point of making them rubber bullets especially since he just shot the gun out of his hand.
