soo stupid that happeend to simpsons and stupid thought philosophy here, just let it make sense, ive her the accent wtfI'm also upset that we finally had our chance for South American voice acting representation and they blew it! I know Kate (the localization lead) said they didn't want an Apu situation like with the Simpsons... So why didn't they give an opportunity to someone from down south???
do people change how they identify over time? yeah, absolutely. But it's not like people are making stuff up about her. There's still the fact that they didn't "hire a Puerto Rican", she is American with Puerto Rican ancestry; doesn't speak the language, natively has a southern american accent, and has to force the one she wears on Wuk Lamat. If she took more time to study how her relatives talk and practice more, it wouldn't be an issue. But I'm Latina too, and her accent sounds like a parody sometimes, and I don't think I should have to apologize for feeling that way.
So if people end up feeling that her identifying with with her hispanic heritage is a recent move of convenience of some kind, I think it's shitty and kind of paranoid to think that, but I won't pretend the pieces aren't in place that can lead someone to make that assumption.
Personally I think she understood something deeper about marginalized identities since then and recognized how powerful solidarity is, and how little gestures even like putting "she/ella" in her bio flags her as a safe person to be around.

Her descent and origins doesn't justify bad line delivery.
Sorry to all the people defending her but when her character has to shout, there is an 80% chance she'll miss the mark.
This is either on her part or on the direction and it needs to be corrected because that last trial line when she calls for Sphene made the entire encounter hilarious.
I'm tired

That's fair if you feel like her accent is forced and she didn't "study her ancestors aptly enough" but there are also those who identify as Latino and are puerto rican that think the representation is good.

So we're in a bit of a limbo, because neither side is wrong for that. You're entitled to feel the way you do. My issue is with people calling her white and using that as more ammo when she herself identifies with her heritage and calls herself Latina.
I actually have more issues with the transphobic people but they're not even worth talking about.
Yeaaaah we both know her performance and the way they character is written is just a trojan horse for the real problem people have with her. I think the character and her performance is dog too, but that's kind of as far as it should go. >_>

Personally I feel shouting Sphene (in English) will always sound bad no matter what, since Sphene is a really silly name. Beryl would have worked better (it's the syllables and "ee" sound). Her descent and origins doesn't justify bad line delivery.

Feel forced? She literally doesnt have an accent irl. It is totally forced by definition. That's fair if you feel like her accent is forced and she didn't "study her ancestors aptly enough" but there are also those who identify as Latino and are puerto rican that think the representation is good.

People that think representation matters are stupid for the same reason DEI is stupid. Putting people into something because they are X or Z or whatever leads to bad charakterdesign
most of the time since they reduce the charakters to be exactly this: X or Z.
And yes one of the sides is wrong and its yours. The VA literally said they are white... IF you use your race/gender/sexuality as you see fit and change it as you please makes you look like a clown
that has no real arguements.
Again this stupid labels: The VA is bad because the VA has no skills. Thats literally it.
But yes you can also explain it by saying the obv:
Maybe it is not the best idea to hire a biological male human being to voice a female charakter if the charakter is the MC of the story and takes like 80% of the voicelines.
Maybe its a stupid idea to make the VA also fake an accent since the VA allready has to work with an unnatural voicerange. Considering how much the VA had to fake
its no wonder why the VA can not deliver an emotional range as an unskilled VA. The whole thing was designed to fail.

I don't get the "She is a descent of a Latino, therefore, she is a Latino and has their accent". You know how racist it is to assume one identity and accent through their ancestors? Like, that's "One Drop Rule" is about, and that's considered as racist, if I understand it correctly. I am of a Chinese descent, and yet, I can't do a Chinese accent and, hell, I can't even speak Chinese.

That scene was a mess in all 4 languages. Japanese and French had def better delivery but that still didn't save it from the writing.

Just wanna drop by and say you can be a white Latino, just like you can be a black Latino. Sometimes without even having mixed race ancestry (like in the cases of Afro-Latin Americans and European Argentines).
