The problem is Wuk's writing at best is a 5/10 character, and the English VA turn her into a 3/10 characters.

If the base writing was a 9/10 or 10/10 character, the criticism on the VA would have been less harsh.

If the VA was assigned the role of a side character, the performance would probably more tolerable.


But like I said before, to be cast as the main character of the story, especially one that was given as much screen time as Wuk Lamat, just being "alright or ok" in itself is not enough, you have to be great. This character got the worst case combination of all the important factors.

- You can argue her writing is not bad, but just ok.

- You can argue her VA is not that bad, but just ok.

And while you may have a case if you just isolate each metric, putting all of that in one character though than it's like the resonance effect. You don't end with an ok character, you end up with terribad character.

In the days of social media being such a powerful tool that it has already been used to polarize our country in ways never before imagined, I am surprised ppl don't realize the power small companies or groups of individuals can have over large companies if they are savvy enough to weaponize it. Esp when it comes to topics that are already incedibly polarizing and that people are incredibly passionate about, which will make a lot of ppl default to supporting them regardless. What has descent have to do with it? To speak authentically, you just need to be active user of the language and live among native speakers.

And why the hell is accent needed anyway? Doma did not use fake asian accents for their inhabitants. Can you imagine how racist it would have sounded if they did?
