Not ironically, camera control is something a lot of new players struggle with. I've seen:

    - Being zoomed in way too close to their character.
    - Camera pointing at their own feet all the time.
    - Moving the whole camera away from the boss when they need to move the character away.
    - Don't know how to switch the camera to prioritize relevant information in general. For example, having the bosses' arms out of the frame - you usually need to see those.
    - Do not "seek north" or "align camera with north" during encounters. Specially when the arena is round, this is essential, or it's very easy to get lost.

It's something that's trivial if you're used to the game, but can be a struggle to a newcomer. Specially one who's not used to 3D cameras.

Pokemon shouldn't make me "deep dive" into the game with things like type effectiveness. My pokemon should just always be able to win no matter the match up.

No, OP is posting the absolute bare minimum of endgame expectations.

If they were posting about 'hardcore elitist stuff,' we would be delving into topics like server ticks, animation locks, clippping, command queuing and why macros are bad in combat content, pre-positioning, lines on the floor, why limit break 1 is a dice roll on whether it's worth casting or not, buff alignment, mitigation plans, maintaining uptime responsibly, res priorities, dance partner priorities, when to hold versus use abilities, fight kill times and sandbagging... any number of other very precise aspects of the game that most normal players never heard of or even need to think about.

Understanding that an AOE has already resolved once the orange indicator on the ground disappears is basic.

Understanding that an enemy castbar gives you a clue of what the upcoming ability might actually do is basic.

Exercising grade-school level pattern recognition is basic.

Whether or not you want to put any effort in at all is your prerogative, but don't call the advice in this thread "hardcore" or "elitist" when in reality it is the absolute bare minimum to not grief the people you are playing with.

This has to be bait. There's no way an actual sentient human being thinks looking at the enemy cast bar is "hardcore elitist."

It's pretty funny bait, though. Calling anything more than the absolute bare minimum 'hardcore elitist' is plain funny.

I don't know about you but the VERY first thing I do in every game I play is delv I to the settings, get things right as much as I can then adjust later. Not every one has to do this and you don't have to.

Essentially what OP is telling people and giving really good advice might I add, is use the tools provided in the game to help you. Default UI is fine but if your struggling with something it's on you to recognize it and adjust accordingly. The games incredibly customizable with its UI many options in there to mess with. People who don't care enough to fix a problem they have are hurting themselves.

Do you feel this way about any other kind of game? For example, any type of fighting game, or racing game, or any kind of platformer like Mario or Sonic? Because you're absolutely incorrect. The difference between these types of games and XIV is that it IS expected that you need to understand the fundamentals to start but that you need to learn to do some more advanced, "elitist" things to finish them. Unless, of course, you would rather choose to spend hours upon hours in a RPG or JRPG grinding out levels while holding down attack so that you can just be supremely over-leveled, in which case, I'm sorry to tell you, but a game with a level cap that is the same level as it's content to intentionally prevent exactly this, just isn't for you.

This is simply ridiculous. Look I'm sorry if you had the 'road to' buff to level your jobs and missed half of the traits and upgrades you got.

Blame SE for your lack of understanding stuff with no tutorial and enticing you into a server that was under populated so you gain 3 levels per dungeon.

Some people actually want to engage in content, not just steam roll through it.

Wait, how the heck is this hardcore elitist stuff? This is basic game knowledge, which some people don't know some of these points and it may ACTUALLY help them a lot.
Learning things that might make you play the game better is elitist now?

They didn't talk about weaving, about 2m, about DPS stuff or anything really advanced.

I'm sorry but like, if you believe that basic game know-how is considered hardcore-elitism and you refuse to at least learn the basics, then maybe the changes in Dawntrail in terms of normal dungeons difficulty/difficulty in general were sorely needed in the game.
We're level 100 for hecking sake, one is not supposed to two button through the the whole dungeon anymore.

If you feel the need to constantly stare at your abilities other than a quick glance to see if you got a proc or to check a cooldown timer, go hit a target dummy until you don't need to look at it anymore. You can also use an enlarged, unbound ability bar to put your cooldown abilities, so you can keep an eye on the timers without having to look down. It's like learning to type without looking at your keyboard.
I don't have problems with normal difficulty, but I'm curious about this point. Because while I know my rotation just fine, there is unfortunately no convenient UI element to let you know the status of the GCD aside from hotbars. Because of this, I do spend a significant portion of any fight glancing down at my hotbar so that I know when my GCD has progressed to the point where I can queue my next GCD action. For that reason I put my BLM-specific UI elements down with my hotbar so that all of the "me stuff" can be seen at a glance in roughly the same spot.

But I'm curious how other people handle this GCD issue. I'm guessing some people mash buttons instead of doing a single press within the appropriate window? But I'm interested in hearing all manner of ways folks navigate this issue.
