I want to personally say that if it ignores guard when attacking wiht osmeone wiht Death's warrant then they shoudl take increase damage from outside sources. Or to counter it flat out remove teh LB ignoring guardReaper is very high on the list of jobs I'm pleased to see on the enemy team in CC.
Reaper is built around a 7s damage window that it's not sticky enough to capitalize on.
If I had to make a couple changes, I'd say:
1. Reaper attacks pierce Guard while the target suffers from Death Warrant.
2. Breaking Crest of Time Borrowed removes afflictions that can be removed by Purify.
3. Crest of Time Returned also grants the Reaper resilience for 6s.
4. Slightly reduce animation lock upon casting Tenebrae Lemurum.
Reaper's on-paper potency is perfectly reasonable, but their marked target shouldn't be able to just Guard and walk away to nullify a substantial chunk of it,
nor should the Reaper's assault be so easily discouraged by literally any CC.

This post is interesting to read for sure, when RPR is S tier in any kind of diam/crystal game pretty much systematically. Probably close to being the best melee DPS if played well, and downright disgustingly oppressive to play against.

Guys, the thread is over two years old, many things changed since then. Remember to check the dates.

Haha this is gold but RPR does need a small dmg buff to their lb like 5k per hit that’s all
It got buffed, but it still really can't burst that well without a maxed-out Plentiful Harvest or its LB active and having extremely telegraphed burst does not work well in a setting with a defensive option as strong as Guard.
It has so much set-up and prepwork involved in its burst compared to the other melee that I just don't feel threatened by them trying to harass me as I would like I would any of the other melee.

I play PAL the only time a reaper seems dangerous to me is if they're sitting on their LB waiting for me to cover+shield someone. Unless they catch me in that compromising position I don't really worry about them. They are though my favourite class to cover because watching them go ape shit with their LB while I have them covered is like having a leashed rabid dog and it's very satisfying.

It's one of those jobs that definitely have a weakness in the first opener engagement. You have no resources and limited burst abilities, although you have your crowd control to burn purifies still. It's not dissimilar from BLM in that regard.
Unlike melees like MNK that feel absolutely oppressive if they have it in for you, especially if you're a squishy, RPR doesnt feel like that much unless they LB on you guarding and pummel you to death. It feels more oppressive at a team/macro level though.

So here’s an idea. For people here feeling reaper needs a cosmetic overhaul. . .switch to drg. Problem solved. Free damage. You feel safer from a distance, and you can regularly take 50% of people’s damage away.
For those who reeeally tinker with the utilities and get a proper understanding…reaper is juuuust fine. Let’s see why, k?
1. Arcane Crest needs NO buff. AC’s recast is 20 seconds. It’s uptime….is 10 seconds. It’s a free damage delt +10%, and if it’s broken, you AOE regen. E V E R Y. 10. Seconds. Make a brainless macro, connect AC to your combo, and forget it ever existed. That means you’ll be walking around with an extra 12k hp, more than a tank, potential regen and boosted atk 10% . . .50% of the match. Begging for Cc resistance too? Jesus, you want some invincibility added as well? Stop being greedy.
2. Waaa-waaa my Communio needs instant casssttt. No. It doesn’t. Communio is a nuke with a frigging 80k potential fired into a group. Treat it like a bazooka. Inversely, fire it off in the face of a single target. If you’re brainlessly fighting 2-3 targets and not zipping away with Hell’s Ingress, you don’t deserve to get a safe cast off. Learn to use it in flow.
3. Zomg! Ah can’t maximize on Plentiful harvesttt! Read the additional effect:Gradually fills your limit gauge. THAT should be your highest priority, not sitting on PH waiting for that peeerfect time to pop it for super world ending damage. If stacks are there, good. If not, oh well…build gauge. Same thing with Death Warrent. Not only is it up every 20:seconds for a minimum of free 8k damage, but it gives Guillotine, another 8k. So that’s 16k/aoe damage every 20 seconds if you don’t sit on it waiting for that boom boom end of world hit. Spam it.
4. Nuuuuu! Mah LB is underpowered and I gets curb stomped instantlyyy! /sigh. Learn for gods sake WHEN to fire off Tenebrae. Newsflash…fire it off in a group and everyone’s gonna automatically target you. Unless you’re clearing point in overtime, if you don’t have guard up, don’t do that. LB off to the SIDE of a group, where if necessary you can scoot away with HI and just come back. Better yet, specifically look for people who just popped guard so you can rip it off of em and make ‘em take every last single hit. If a walls nearby, position it so they run into it….niiiice and close to you, no chase down. Could Crossreaving use a boost? A little? Maybe, but utilized correctly, it gets the job done.
In an overtime match, I can usually push between 800k-1mil dps. No, that doesn’t top drg’s 1.2-4 mil, but it’s easily respectable. While its dependency on team for Plentiful Harvest (especially stuck with a low dmg pld, dnc, or brd) IS a pain kill/assist wise, its utility makes it solid as fudge. Just learn to properly capitalize on its kit.

Oh for the love of--You’re from Seraph, nuff said.
Have you tried reading the tool tips after 400 games? Have you ever hit a striking dummy to practice your rotation.
If yes and you still haven’t figured out that you’re not a hard carry. Then you clearly need to take a step back and reevaluate your life decisions.
1. Reaper is extremely tanky.
2. Reaper is extremely mobile.
3. Reaper can break guard.
4. Reaper’s death warrant dmg goes thru guard.
5. Reaper has a shield + heal.
6. Reaper has basically 2 LBs.
It also has a heavy but it’s meh.
Do you know why point 1, 2 and 5 are a thing? Because your job isn’t to kill like MNK or DRG or MCH. You can figure that out for yourself, after 400 games and you still don’t know how to RPR, sheesh. Hint: it has something to do with point 6. Free tip: don’t waste your actual LB on single targets except in niche situations.
TLDR: git gud.
If you wanna tell people how they need to "git gud", then start by learning how to read a calendar and the thread's date, you are responding to a post from over two years ago.
"Oooh you're from Seraph, nuff said", do none of your NA players know how to read a calendar (date)?
