Another bump. In disbelief that we're going another expansion where artifact gear lacks miqo'te ears , like come on man , half the hats aren't even a crazy shape and are flush to our heads but they don't let our ears poke through... Lame.

Honestly not too bothered about the ear placement on the helmet. In "reality" there would probably be speakers tucked into the ears inside that helmet. While the ears themselves are folded along the head. This is very weird, especially considering that the way the male miqo'te ears show is quite strange. They look like horns because they come from the circular shapes to the sides of the helmet. So in the end, they don't look very good. Those shapes should be further back in the helmet, something the designers would know if they didn't design gear for hyur by default all the time.
Those helmet ears are merely cosmetic.
Still, overall sad with that set removing both our defining features. Almost wonder if they used female miqo'te as the base model for the soldiers.
In Battle, the last thing you'd want is protrusions on your your helmet, where any weapon would get caught and be able to transfer the kinetic energy of the swing directly to your neck.
I'd be a fudging death sentence.
So if we Miqo's are able to flatten our ears to the extent of fitting them snugly into a "round" helmet, such armor would be a lot more realistic and safer.
I don't play the game for realism though. Have you seen how impractical some of the armor and weapons are?In Battle, the last thing you'd want is protrusions on your your helmet, where any weapon would get caught and be able to transfer the kinetic energy of the swing directly to your neck.

This is a jrpg.
Also. no one knows how armor for a race with cat ears and tail would be designed.
Them sticking out could be just as dangerous as them being so tugged in it gets uncomfortable.
If we're going for "realistic structure" I would imagine it to be more dome shaped on the outside with internal space for the ears. But that's only if you're going for absolute protection and not looks.
Plus there are plenty of hats where the hat provides no protection and it's all about the aesthetics and comfort.
Yes I was mainly talking about tank gear that has classical helmets.
Naturally this does not apply to a wizard hat made of cloth or civilian clothing.
NEW RAID GEAR IS OUT GUYS AND GUESS FUCKING WHAT?
