    At this point they're either completely out of touch with how 'visual role identity' went out the window YEARS ago or using it to deflect because uncoupling the ability to glam gear from being able to equip it would be a difficult undertaking.

    In the most recent interview with Yoshi-P about glamour (which you can find in the main post of this thread), he specifically mentioned that removing glamour restrictions is technically feasible. He could have easily used technical limitations as an excuse, but he instead mentioned role identity again...

    And then we have him contradict this by showcasing the new Mad Max-inspired glamour, where the healer set is a black leather jacket.

    Like, again. There has never been a technical reason for locking gear. Only a job identity reason, and in most cases those excuses don't fly.

    In a traditional TT RPG, or most CRPG's from the 80's and 90's, those gear restrictions have always existed. Usually it's one of two:

    Player can wear everything, and there is a progression of better gear as you gain strength to wear it,
    Nothing -> Cloth -> Leather -> Chain mail -> Plate Mail -> Magic/Tech gear

    or
    Class-locked
    Tank-type characters, basically anyone using a 2handed sword/claymore/etc or 1 handed sword+shield can wear all armor types
    DPS Strength types 1-handed sword without shield, use anything up to chain mail, and can't use plate mail/magic gear
    DPS Dexterity(Thief/archer)-types and DPS ranged characters can only use cloth or leather, no metal or magic gear.
    DPS Casters (Wizard/Sorcerer) that use destructive magic only use cloth
    Healer types (Cleric(priest)/Druid) only use cloth (being casters), but have had the loosest gear interpretations, ranging from cloth/leather/chain to "everything but comes at a cost"

    The overall idea is that the only thing that should keep one class from wearing another class's gear is the ability to wear it in the first place. So if you remove the class lock, then you simply have the underlying level or strength requirement. There is no logical reason why a tank CAN NOT wear cloth, but there is every reason to say a Caster can not wear Tank gear.

    Which just comes back to the entire reason why MMO CRPG's should separate the appearance of gear from the underlying stats. Only in a MMO do people make decisions based on how things look rather than how things function, because if they're going to be playing a game for 300 hours, they don't want to be stuck looking at the ugliest gear during the cutscenes.

    Square Enix should be focusing on giving us better "different" gear rather than making 5 sets of gear per expansion that users are immediately going to glamor over. The fact that they've reused gear a few times just highlights that the "green" dungeon drops are just there to be glamored over, since you can't dye it.
