90% of Dawntrail MSQ could be a side quest

I kept a list of things during the MSQ that didnt make sense to me.

I did this before for all other expansions, and it was only a couple things here or there, most all of which get resolved eventually or by sidequests.

For Dawntrail, the list is huge, and I just finished the MSQ.

The TLDR For Dawntrail is: Estinien had the vacation we were promised

I did this too! And oh my god. I never thought I'd write anything this long about what doesnt make sense in FFXIV story. I'm so unsatisfied with this. I love this game but my god, DT is such a BIG LET DOWN for me. I 70% regret spending that 40 dollans. The only thing thats keeping me in this game RN is that I just started my fishing journey and its more enjoyable than what the heck they did in DT MSQ.

The fact people are drawing parallels to ARR as a form of defence is problematic.

During ARR, we were a fresh faced adventurer striking out. Sure we had the undercurrent of the WoL storyline but it wasn't established. By the time the end of ARR rolls around and we're a fully-fledged hero - the filler is gone. I don't mind taking a note over to a guard when I'm a newbie, it's all part of it.

In DT, we're literally the HERO OF THE PLANET. We are probably the most powerful creature on Eorzea - maybe of all the shards - and have slain the very gods and creators of our world with our own hands. I don't want to stand around watching you make tacos. It's patently ridiculous.

Even the Pictomancer and Culinary/Alchemist questlines managed to tug more at my heartstrings than the MSQ story did.

It's problematic because it's an inaccurate comparison. DT is nothing like ARR. Even a blind-fool could see that. So many people are media illiterate. That doesn't make the story bad, it makes their attention spans pathetically small.

Honestly, I kept thinking it would be so cool if they actually addressed the fact in Tural people don't know who we are, making us just look like some asshole glory hound mercenary inserting ourselves into their politics. Like you know that villain archetype - Someone super strong who sides with the main villain, usually acting as their bodyguard. Not because they actually agree with the villain, but because they are looking for a challenging battle or something like that.

Because that's basically what we are, except there should have been a moment where the stakes get so high we step out of our "vacation" mode and reveal who we actually are.

Why is this so accurate LMAO. The entire time I was playing dawntrail MSQ i was either bored out of my mind or so fucking angry at the story writing and dumb decisions I have to stand up and walk away from my PC.
