When you stare at one character for thousands of hours even the subtlest of differences will make it look “off” to you. I’d advise anyone who is upset to give their brain time to adjust unless it is actually a big oversight.

My miqo’s lip looks a little different post update and for a little bit it made her look wrong to me. However when I put the old lip and new lip side-by-side I saw that the size and shape was pretty much identical. The different was that the higher res textures made the shading/shadows different, which gave it a slightly different character to older worse shading. This was weird at first but my brain has adjusted after playing DT for a little bit and now I just think my character looks better and more detailed.

I dunno, this looks like more than shading to me. Everything on my miqo’s face got flattened. Nose and lips lost any kind of shape they had. The eyes got drooped. The original mesh honestly looks more detailed in most places. Look at the forehead for example and tell me that’s an upgrade? The brows lost detail and are flat now but aren’t any higher resolution. The eyelashes changed significantly but aren’t higher resolution. The eye texture was changed but isn’t higher resolution and is showing up grey and cataract-y looking in game. You cant see it from the side but the new lip texture is atrocious in my books. It has a heavy, baked in and incorrectly shaped shadow on the lower lip. It’s also got permanently enabled pink lip gloss now despite my lip colour being set to none. The only things higher resolution on my characters face are the skin/eye socket textures and the hair, and those were machine upscaled.

I’m not someone who is demanding the old models back, I wanted a glow up too! I’m saying this aint it. This aint a glowup. Anyone who says it is are the ones being tricked by the new lighting, not me. The old model probably would have looked just as good with the higher resolution skin/eye socket and hair textures. I would love a more polished and higher detail upscale of my face but I just got a different face that’s mostly the same level of detail or worse, being lit by better lighting. Why should I call this better and be happy with this?

Edit: (Also sorry if it feels like people are jumping down your throat. You’re much more polite than most people I’ve encountered who disagree with people over facial changes. I don’t mean to come off as mad at you or anything. I just disagree with what you said and want to offer my observations. Thank you for being here, and thank you for discussing things civilly)
