It isnt the mobility that is the problem, it is breaking up the dps windows due to moving.BLM is extremely mobile if you're skilled at the job. It's a selfish DpS-- all it has is DPS. If it's not out DPSing other casters, namely PCT, that's an objective conceptual failure of job design. The solution is not to undo what BLM is.
Also you do not need parse logs to feel and observe the imbalance of PCT.
BLM also just got a rework and it sucks.

I'm not upset, I don't even personally care if they fix it. But I just don't think the solution is homogenizing the job. BLM has been top DPS in previous expansions as has been noted in this thread, even in a game that demands that you move..a game that tosses in random cutscenes..etc. it doesn't make any sense for a PCT to be competing with selfish casters or even selfish melee for that matter. It's a blemish on the game from a design perspective.
Though respectfully, anyone who thinks BLM should have permanent insta cast is not on my side, or probably most BLM mains side.
That is literally fixing a problem that doesn't exist imo. PCT is the problem. It's also black and white. Just read the potencies

I hear ya. But this happens every time they release new classes.I'm not upset, I don't even personally care if they fix it. But I just don't think the solution is homogenizing the job. They are almost always overpowered.
Let's see what they do. TBH, I wouldnt be shocked if Picto got hit with the nerf bat.
I just think in this particular case it's so obvious. What exactly did they think was going to happen when they reworked BLM to be even less flexible and then saddle it with Flare Star?? PCT has three 1k potency spells. Flare Star is almost half that with a rigid upkeep and long cast.
BLM just has other problems also contributing to these results i.e removal of sharpcast, removal of Ice Paradox, flare Star in general. It's unclear imo what base potemcies should even be adjusted to bc there's other things they could also adjust. If they leave the job as is then potencies have to go up.

Job difficulty should have little to do with damage potential in this day and age, difficulty is its own reward. Now if you come at me with Black Mage is "selfish" and has no raid buff or the ability to raise, I will say that they should add that in 2( and a half) years in 8.0. Selfish dps design is an old concept and every job should bring utlity. If the Utility you bring is having a higher ceiling (and floor) than other jobs, I can get behind that, but dont come at me with "waah waah, the job is harder than the rest, it should do more damage". Difficulty is a personal issue. A job I might find challenging may be seen as the easiest by others in the community. If a 50 year old Japanese man can play the job at its highest with old man decreased response time, your young ass can too.
Now you can't come at me with the "cool" argument either. "Cool" is subjective. For me, Summoner is cool, but ive been a summoner main since I first saw a Japanese dude running around Saruta Baruta with Fenrir out in FFXI 21 years ago. But I have friends that love the job fantasy of BLM being the heavy nuker and (former) AoE god. So "cool" doesnt cut it for needing to do more damage. You dont design something to be the big bad damage job just so its cool, you design the job to be cool then you add the damage.
I'd rather be in Zitah

Alrighty here we go, firstly no, no job should EVER do 15% more dps than the second highest dps job that is insanely unbalanced and has no place in the game. While I agree black mage desperately needs a buff why are you so upset about this, as far as I can tell there is no record of you even playing blm in high end content or you doing any high end content at all for that matter, and they made the job significantly easier to do "good damage" the only people this should realistically be an issue for is the top 1% of blm play it in savage race or ultimate race because its usually 1-2% higher than the rest of the jobs. considering it seems like youre not playing blackmage in that level of content or playing anything outside of normal mode why are you so angry, just play a job thats fun without worrying about its dps. and if you are so upset about being under melee right now just play picto and have an easier experience. but like fr dude chill and play whats fun.
tldr: blm is weak but 15% more is huffing copium and it shouldnt really matter to you

Guess all those top parsing black mages getting out dps'd by half the roster at this point have a skill issue

Well I know its always a thing when new jobs do great at dps, I have been blm for years, and seen this happen before, every xpack . But when I see an "easier" job smash buttons and do utility while running around , meanwhile as a blm you have to have your rotations down perfect, and u still get outdps-ed ...That stings! And makes me wonder what are we even doing here? It should be a high risk, high reward thing... but i'm not seeing the reward so far.
