No matter how hard you want it to be, being dismissive still isn't actual feedback. You still have a chance to add positively to the conversation.I think these initial reactions to the story will be seen as overblown in a few years, which is exactly what happened to Stormblood. Seeing comments that are saying stuff like “WuK is tHe WorSt cHaRaCTer sinCe LYsE” really cements this for me. Hating Lyse that much in 2024 is just hilarious.
I do not want to be second fiddle to WL, the moment the true nature of the final areas of the game came to light, we should have taken command....

I like DT and have no issues with Wuk. Though I do have other criticisms of DT that don't stop me from enjoying it.
But I didn't like SB's msq. I didn't like Lyse. (Not to 'worst character ever' extent but still not fond of her.) And my opinions have not changed on either.
The only big shift for me really is that I like Zenos in EW more now but I still don't think he was handled well in SB.
Stormblood didn't see anywhere close to the backlash Dawntrail is facing. Ironically, even though a fair number were critical of the Ala Mhigan side of the story, Doma was near universally beloved from day one. In fact, it's the praise for Doma and all her work prior which drew more and more attention to Ishikawa and likely contributed to her taking the reigns for Shadowbringers.I think these initial reactions to the story will be seen as overblown in a few years, which is exactly what happened to Stormblood. Dawntrail, by comparison, has no arc that isn't heavily divisive. I'd argue some are looking back on their criticism of Lyse because for all her flaws even she didn't dominate the narrative remotely to the same extent Wuk Lamat does nor was our character sidelined to prop up her story. Going further, Stormblood managed to give character to Lyse, Hien, Yugiri, Gosetsu, Yotsuyu and even Zenos which is a feat in and of itself. All while still giving the WoL moments too. How many did Dawntrail have? Wuk Lamat and... Koana, her brother. Everyone and I mean, everyone was put on the backburner because Dawntrail is the Wuk Lamat show.
At least Koana was good.
"Stand in the ashes of a trillion dead souls and ask the ghosts if honor matters."
"The silence is your answer."
After being led around by the edgy nihilism train that was Emet and Zenos, I thought she was a nice optimistic change of pace.
This is only tenuously related, but did anyone else find the zone 4 rubber bullet thing odd? I am fairly sure sleepyhead jaja bled profusely in his fight with his son ja? I remember being a bit taken aback at a few points by both the unusual sight of blood and the surprisingly regular use of the word "shit" given prior expansions. Perhaps the fishmen are allowed to bleed because they're not human?
I also think they wrote Dawntrail like this. They probably wanted to test the waters on how players reacted to not being the main character and having more of a mentor / free role. If the reception was good they would continue it and leave her in the team but if it was bad... then I hope they learn.I honestly think they wrote Wuk Lamat and Koana to be "one and done" characters for Dawntrail only, similar to Lyse. I would be surprised if we saw them again as main characters in the future. The reason I say that is because they already seem to become "perfect" rulers immediately during the course of the Dawntrail main story, and there's really nothing else for them to improve or change as characters.
Edit: That being said, Vrtra was also kind of in that position, but he was written SO much better.
I don't even say that this concept is bad or impossible but they did it completely wrong.
I guess, how FlowerMilk implied, most players would have been more accepting if there had been anything for our character, like the second half.
Wuk lamat was fine in the first part, even though she was imo badly written but she really overstayed her welcome and I don't know who's brilliant idea it was to have her cover the WoL in certain cutscenes but this person needs to lose one sock in the washing machien... repeatedly.
That may very well be but for a video game the future is not important but the initial impression.I think these initial reactions to the story will be seen as overblown in a few years, which is exactly what happened to Stormblood. Otherwise 1.0 wouldn't have blown up because the game might have become better later.

Ok so let me get this right. Allot of you hate Zenos....so let me understand many of you are racist low key. Allot of hate wuk lamat and many are calling us racist /biget /phobic so....whats the differance if u dont like a character i guess insert bigot remark here and hope to guilt ppl into liking something they dont jeez you guys are creeps weirdos and cult members im getting feeling some ppl here are part of lambs of dalamud.... i kid tho....maybe
The point is I like Zenos as a character I believe he has way better growth than Wuk Lamat and im sure some person gonna be like your wrong....but i can say the same about wuk lamat.
I liked Wuk Lamat. She has a lot of the same issues as ARR Alphinaud in the 2.x patches - she's naive, sheltered, and absolutely gets taken for a ride as a result. Everyone hated him in 2.x. Then he ate a big piece of humble pie and we grew to love him in Heavensward.
But she learns from her mistake, grows, and over the course of the expansion (which takes place over a full month if you track the day/night cycles and breaks and whatnot) actually sheds some of the naivety. She's still got a lot of growth to do, but her character makes a lot more sense if you think of her as being a dumb teenager. (She's about Alisae's age.)
