I think people needs to let the devs know this is not quality of writting and that there was too much Wuk Lamat, there is is a lot of problems with character models and other things. And this is good for the game to become even better.
Let people complain when there is reason for complain instead of toxic positivity.
Not going to fake positivity for a product I paid full price for and a sub.
Its bad. Objectively. The msq has issue's the VA and cut scene designs have issues.
Depending on who you ask even quest and performance issues.
Heaven forbid if you where on an xbox and your game was completely unplayable.
So no as a player who loves this game I will be negative about that things that deserve it and positive about the things that do as well.
This expansion is not a positive thing for alot of players and they have a right to vent that negatively in whatever official format will listen.
It is literally what Yoshida told us to do to be heard by the developers.
Nobody is forcing you to read the negativity. Nobody is forcing you to hate the expansion/story. If you have positive things to post, you can freely post them. Forums are for discussions, you can either take part or not. Just don't try to shut people up, because that's not very nice and positive of you.
I wonder what the implication of that might be or the root cause.
Negative feedback (as long as it's constructive) is not necessarily bad. It's silent apathy when you need to start worrying.
I been playing since Heavensward with breaks in between, first time I ever came to the forums with feedback in an expansion or patch ever. While so far I think Dawntrail is the weakest MSQ of all the story lines it's still a solid 7/10 out for me but because I like the MSQ so much I hold them to a higher standard and the quality has been all over the place this expansion so far.
It's almost jarring how quickly it goes from good writing to ridiculous, to bearable and then tolerable then back to good. There are good things to say about Dawntrail like the dungeons, music, the art and I enjoyed the side quests but this expansion has problems enough that I felt warranted for the first time to post about them.
/shrug.
I don't think it is an overreaction. The expansion is just that bad.
The MSQ in particular is the worst it's been since 2.0. I know they had a new lead writer, but there were still tons of other people working on it and I'm honestly baffled that they could all look at it and be like "Yeah, this is fine."
Hell, if you ignore all the fetch quests/filler and look at just the raw story, I think 2.0 might have actually been significantly better than this.
And that's just the story. There's also the terrible Disney music randomly thrown into places, especially the epilogue, the massive empty towns, and the criminal voice direction.

The forums have always been on the negative side. People looking to gush tend towards Reddit or other places that have downvote buttons so they can sink things they don't like out of sight. Unfortunately, it means neither place has a very balanced view.
No one is overreacting. The reaction is proportionate to the quality of the product.
Throwing around words like 'overreacting' is disingenuous. Everyone here purchased a product with certain expectations, expectations formed from previous experience with the product and promises from the developers. Square Enix did not deliver, I did not get my money's worth for the product. Many folks feel the same way. This idea what we should pay forever for inferior quality needs to stop, and folks like you should stop defending it. I don't work as hard as I do to have the disposable income in the first place to drop it all on steaming piles of garbage. I expect a product worth the price tag.
