After finishing, and with maint going on i have nothing better to do. I agree. Wuk was the downfall of Dawntrail.
The first half. It was ok. Felt mostly like a side quest because of all the world building. That was expected. It was her journey to learn about her people and grow. That does not, however qualify her to be a leader or protector of anything. She is naive, never has an actual plan, and makes it though on plot armor alone. She really brings to mind, princess poppy from trolls.
The second half. The world is threatened from another reflection. This is the scions specialty. She is not needed at all. We spend most of our time explaining things to her just for her to look confused and then following her as she continues to use her only trick. Cultural understanding. Her brother was the best about it. He literally got bored of her nonsense and went on the offensive and that's the only reason we made it out of the 5th zone.
The we move on to the final zone. Sphene is literally trying to open the way into the source and other reflections to kill everyone in order to support her massive AI driven computer simulation. What do we do. We follow Wuk again in the only thing she knows how to do. Activate cultural understanding. Just when you though the pace was going to pick up, we get a long slow trudge through the final zone pretending that AI are real people and "helping".
Finally we get to the final boss. We are fighting her after she has legit deleted her memories. And as soon as things take a turn for the worse, Wuk charges in to save people ,who canonically are so much more powerful than her it laughable, with the power of friendship and understanding. Somehow making an emotionless AI catch a case of the feels and then claiming victory.
IMO
The competition, being a test to make them grow, should have resulted in all 3 of them ascending to leadership. Allowing a balance of power. There is no balance between Koana an Wuk. He clearly has deeper feelings for her and will bend to her every whim. Zoraal Ja got his fathers strength. Koana got his mind. Wuk got his heart. Together they would have been best.
The second half should not have involved Wuk. That is the point where Cid should be showing up like he sensed new toys. Erinvilles drive would still have fit as well as the story with his mother. Fitting Kriles parents into the final zone as well. The only thing that made the 2nd half so unbearable was Wuk. The sense of urgency was completely lost by them forcing her into it when her place as the vow of resolve should have been in her city, defending it. Or at most leading an army to the gates of the bubble.
anyway, server status shows green now so I'm done.
