[SPOILERS] Can anyone help me with this MAJOR CONTINUITY ISSUE

This is regarding the 5th zone:

Following the 2nd trial, the portal is closed and the process of dimensional merge is halted, why the heck do we still have a toxic gloomy levin dome over the place? We should at least be witnessing a dissipation of the effect, even if it's not as rampant and pronounced as when the lightwardens are slain

I mean...It might be one of those little touches SE likes to do where things change little by little over the course of patches.

My interpretation was that we were stopping the further merging and aether-siphoning of other existing shards, that wouldn't do anything to get rid of the parts of Sphene's shard that were already merged.

Right.. but.

the dome was supposedly a byproduct of the ongoing merger process. Once that's stopped, and the source of the transformation shut off, it SHOULD dissipate, leaving behind the merged landmass

My understanding is that the dome was part of what was merged, it's the protective bubble surrounding the keep. Not a result of the merging process.

I just rewatched some cutscenes, and this is correct.

Sphene says to Krile (early in zone 5, at the outskirts) that the dome existed in her world for hundreds of years before the interdimensional fusion - it's something Alexandria purposely created to protect themselves from the disaster that hit their continent. When the two worlds fused, they brought the dome with them.

This does raise the question of why they don't just turn the dome off once they realize they're not in Lightning Hell any more - but then again, their entire society is powered by lightning energy, so maybe Solution Nine would grind to a halt if they changed the weather back to normal?

i thought the dome was on purpose to create a softer lightning hell to power the electrope. an artificial environment
