Wow, Wuk Lamat is really single-handedly ruining the DT story...

Zero was miles better. It's a real pity she didn't stay.

Yeah Zero was edgy but in a way that was actually kinda funny (except for the excessive hat tipping). It was cringe but the good kind of cringe for me.
She was also competent and even though the storytelling was not good at least her backstory made sense to me. I could understand why she was who she was and it was believable enough for me.
Not only did she come out of a war-torn country where she was a normal person who failed. She then had to spend a long time in the void and was later enslaved by Zenos. If those events don't traumatise or emotionally stunt you I don't know what would. To me it was plausible that someone, who had gone through all that, had completely forgotten what connections are and had to relearn basics like trust and friendship.

Sure, they overplayed the typical "power of friendship" tropes (I guess there's just no escaping those in FF's recent content) but the scenes with Jullus felt a lot more grounded and somber and that made them enjoyable for me.

It reminds of the old WoW narrative. The heroes did most of the leg work and heavy lifting, and it usually will be an important NPC swoop in the last minute to delivery some dramatic speech and claim the credit. The things is ... when WoW does that, the NPC tend to have a very big presence so it kinda make sense.

Right. WoW made us champions, and what not, but those BIG named NPCs are also always there. It's not like the Scions in their minor supporting role of just existing off screen. Those NPCs are heroes in their own right. Like, as legendary as WE are, the majority of them are right there next to us in power level. They are just as powerful, if not more powerful, than we are in some cases. Is it minorly annoying when they steal the killing blow? Sure. But frankly, if anyone was going to do it, it WOULD be those legendary heroes.

Here it's just like "You are the most powerful hero that several worlds have ever met. You have slain multiple gods at this point, and saved the universe from destruction. Your 'reward' is... Go babysit a kitten for an expansion, and become such a background NPC that the camera hides you behind the characters that actually matter."

Never really engaged in forum discussions... but Wuk Lamat in a weird way deserves it, since never before I felt disappointed with a FF XIV story. What's more I think that Dungeons, leveling zones, overall theme of the story, outfits, music everything is amazing. Wuk Lamat on the other hand somehow sucks out all the joy I may have had, not to mention terrible and flat voice acting on pair with ARR voice acting. Wuk Lamat despite her cringe everything and her only good quality being Power of Friendship is a FF XIV equivalent of a Dementor taking away from everything she is touching. I did not mind her in pre expansion quests, I did not mind her initially in Downtrail either even though she has been designed to be childish comic relief. Mid MSQ she started to be annoying and I appreciated any time without her. By the end of MSQ I prayed to writers to give me time with anyone but her, even Lyse or Papalymo, honestly if they'd announce that Papalymo is being resurrected and will be our companion for next 3 expansions I'd thank them, just to save me from Wuk Lamat.

And then, there was the last Trial. It seemed fun, I actually enjoyed it playing with duty finder, I was for a brief moment enjoying myself - and then, she happened again. Whoever thought that'd be a good idea after all of the suffering we had to endure to this point was a sadist. Unless main theme of Dawntrail was actually how to make WoL suffer how they never suffered before.

Zero was intentional cringe, whereas Wuk is unintentional. I feel that is the difference.

Welp, just had a dialogue option where one of the options to say was

"Wuk Lamat did all the work. I was just moral support."

WTF. I know that this is how a lot of us felt we were being treated in this story, but to have this as an option was simply insulting. (I chose the other one, whatever that was.)

Pretty sure there's an unspoken law that once a line like that is dropped by the mc (us in this case) the character we're speaking to becomes legally renamed to "Writers OC pls don't steal"

My thoughts exactly. This felt like such a desperate attempt to just throw weighty buzzwords from past expansions at us, in the hope those callbacks would evoke the positive feelings we associate with the old saga, so they could cover up the bad writing. The writers of DT don't seem to understand why those past story elements worked the way they did though.
