I...don't even really know why I'm entering this thread, but to clarify, the meaning of that sentence was "But it is unlikely [for a person] to have an actual Puerto Rican accent..." The "it" pronoun here is not a personal pronoun. The word is not meant to replace a usage of a person's name. "It" in this context serves as an abstract subject, a sort of placeholder noun for the verb "is" to act on, referencing, in essence, the current or referenced state or situation rather than a specific object or entity. There's nothing dehumanizing or disrespectful about using "it" in this context because the pronoun isn't referencing a person in the first place.

I wanted to give her the benefit of the doubt initially but yeah, it's very clear Sena's doing a very poor job
I decided to look at her (very limited) VA history prior to XIV and I'm going to be brutally honest, she's just not very good.
I'm wondering how she's gotten roles in a few notable games recently, XIV and Unicorn Overlord with how lackluster she is but I'm going to guess she has connections or it's a nepotism situation.

Edit: this isn't a dig at her. Everyone has to start somewhere and I'm almost certain she will improve with time, but whoever decided to cast her for a main character high profile role in a popular game has more than a few screws loose

I'm a native floridian (born and raised florida cracker basically) and all my neighbors are hispanic (literrally surrounded by them) and have had many friends, co workers, fellow students who were Puerto Rican, Mexican, Cuban.... and her accent doesn't even hit any of those...

I've said this already, and I'll say it again. South American who has been all over the continent here. The accent matches NOTHING, it's completely fake and put on. It's literally the equivalent of never going to britain, and then putting on the most ridiculous, fake "posh" british accent you can think of from having watched a few James Bond movies.

I applaud you for entertaining that post in such a sober manner, but you know things are off the rails when you're giving basic English lessons in the forums of a game that's 90% about verbose text.

It's funny at someone pointing out the ratio of my post and the second post like that's some huge gotcha. All it shows is that people are clearly mixed on the voice, and that there are people who can't stand the voice. Lmao.
Hiring a literal who to be the voice we have to listen to for the entire MSQ, and someone who can't even put on a good accent or voice act in general was an extremely bad decision. Thankfully people have issues with the character in general, so I hope they just stick her in the shadow realm like Lyse and I never have to listen to her dogwater voice again when I swap back to English.

People wouldn't mind the voice if she was a good character, she's grown a little bit in the later MSQ but she's still pretty arrogant and short-sighted.
I've been trying to give the expansion the benefit of the doubt and while I admit her voice isn't great, I didn't consider it nearly as big of an issue compared to the quality of her character.
The pacing and characterization I found were the biggest issues and Wuk Lumat plays a big part in those, if they were good people wouldn't mind her voice nor her character.

I'm guessing it's some junior VA just starting out.
The ones from some previous expansions were fine with some exceptions like Emmet who were exceptional but him and for example the team for FFXVI are exceptions to the entire English VA industry.
I believe the entire thing is still pretty young in terms of experience/directing/training (with exceptions of course), so I never ever use English voices unless it's a special circumstance like in FFXVI.

It sucks, because you can tell from other work she is clearly capable of doing better and this is her biggest role, too.

I do need to feel sorry for the VA a little. This is quite possibly a career hurting production for them, because once you switch to Japanese voice, the story becomes much less painful.

I mean the artwork is stunning, and the story harks back to those nice kid-friendly games from childhood, and that trial was just amazing. Imagine that in extreme.

But the entire expansion has been kicked in the goolies by bad voice (English) acting. (JP 'tomboy' Wuk is actually ok, I think)

Since I decided to tap out after Naruto becomes the Hokage, I don't even care about my remaining sub time, I looked up the ending trial. There's 1 part in there where it just had to be a first take right? No way any competent voice director or producer would say "yup that's good to me". That line, the accent and voice slips mid sentence. If you look up anime bloopers where the VA just suddenly lost character and went into another voice or their regular talking voice, it sort of sounds like that.
