Are y'all expecting too much from Dawntrail's story?

IDK; there's two people talking about diversity being pushed into Japan/SE by western powers in one of the hate threads, right now lol. And they've gotten multiple likes, so...

I mean, when one of SE's own shareholders asked very specifically if that was going to be an issue for the company and got a very vague "please don't ask me that, I'm not allowed to talk about it" answer... Where there's smoke, there's fire, you know? Like, I'm not one for conspiracies and stuff, but when people in the company are showing concern, there's something fishy there. That goes a little bit beyond neckbeards on reddit making crap up, really.

OP, if you like Naruto or any other generic shounen anime with a decently shallow plot mainly designed for younger kids, then you will enjoy DT. Make no mistake, there is nothing wrong with that. Even during early access, people were making Naruto comparisons as a joke, but later realized how accurate it is. I will FOREVER CURSE the first person who told me that, because I cannot un-see it...

However, if I want the Naruto experience, I will go spend my money on Naruto games, and not FFXIV while also paying $20 a month to play it. This is where my complaint is from, and I feel some people probably share my complaint as well.

I'm not big on wuk. I like competency over anime hijinks, exactly why I adored the Exarch and consider his extended story one of the most charming and well done while "uwu taco-boy Tia" is weaker. I know this is an anime game, but anime runs the gamut from Konosuba to Gundam. Some people may like the tonal shift, but after themes and storytelling that were among the best I've ever seen an RPG do in the past 20 years right now you got me going from Lodoss War or Gundam or Berserk over to fucking Naruto, and it's not doing my enthusiasm any good.

Regardless of that though; at least one of the people I'm referencing was also spouting off about non-binary and trans people being nothing more than mental illnesses after he was ranting about Wuk Lamat being a girlboss insert and blah blah blah. Also all with multiple upvotes.

Hopefully you don't subscribe that BS, but it's clear that those fools are around and spreading some hate.

It's absolutely pathetic that that post has as many upvotes as it does, but let's be honest, it was one guy. 99% of complaints in there have valid reasoning to back them up.

And all I expected from this story was a good time adventuring with endearing characters in a new location and eventually some raising stakes that ultimately culminate in some kind of threat that challenged our group of heroes in a new and interesting way. What I got was the Wuk Lamat Show, and she turns out to be a terribly boring shonen anime protagonist who needs to be taught life lessons like "sharing with friends is important" and "believe in yourself" while everyone else smiles and nods.

Absolutely disappointed.

A slow start to a story wouldn't be so much of a problem if it wasn't for the fact that there is almost zero actual GAMEPLAY in said story. If there was more combat or minigames or ANYTHING it wouldn't feel so awful.

I'm monitoring their meetings because I haven't trusted them since the NFT obsessed CEO. I don't trust the top management of SE, so I very much want to keep an eye on their idiotic decisions in case they affect the games I'm interested in. It has nothing to do with wokeness, and everything to do with their history of being REALLY stupid.

I haven't read the other replies yet, so keep that in mind.

I came into Dawntrail expecting something at least close to HW, SB, ShB, and EW in terms of quality for story/MSQ. What we got is worse than ARR before the filler was removed. Not saying ARR was bad, but it's pretty much universally accepted that ARR is the worst part of the MSQ (or at least it was). What I expected what Yoshi's team of writers to give us something, at the very worst, average; but I expected something on par with ShB at least. My expectations were based on what they've given us consistently in the past. So far I haven't seen what I was expecting.

Now don't get me wrong, i posted on the "endwalker story bad" thread for years on my other account before i decided to come back to the game on this account.

So, I was under the impression that most of us here on the forum were going into this expansion with no expectations after the Endwalker travesty. Why are there so many hate threads right now? Is it really that bad lmao

When speaking on the forums, you hardly going to get positive feedback, only things people dislike for the most part. While people on the game generally are just enjoy what the game is.
So I don't really put too much stock in what people say here.

(thats not to say their feedback isn't valid, all feedback is valid, but its a verrrrrrrrry small portion of the player base is in here, and they end up being the loudest). I happen to love endwalker, probably my #1 as it deals with spaaaaaaaaace .

Not trying to discount everyones' viewpoints in there, but if he has multiple upvotes, then it's not just one guy. Multiple people in there agree with him and support that crap. We just don't know who specifically it was; and that calls into question a lot of takes in there for me.

And to be clear; just generally speaking, it does not bother me at all if someone else doesn't like the story. I personally disagree with the majority of what I've heard, and I think that a lot of the takes are being wildly dramatic, but it's all ultimately subjective.

A lot of us just don't want to deal with him because it will just to lead into more incoherent ramblings, which just pollutes everything and adds nothing of value. I don't think the metric you are using to judge us is really valid. Were you around when this person was threatening to kill a few of us or saying we should hang ourselves for us saying the story needs some touch ups to its pacing? I don't care if that was a troll or not, but that is some stuff you do not joke around with. Did those posts get a few Likes? Ya they did...

Let's just ignore the people who adds nothing to valid discussion and treat each other like adults.
