Seriously, you are calling this a graphic update?

Sorry for the aggressive title, but I really can't accept it.

This is my wol before and after the update.
Do these two really look like the same characters? Or do they seem to be better after the update? The eyes, nose and mouth are all different, so I just can't accept the current graphic as my wol. Just give me my wol back Please.

If it makes you feel any better, yours is just a cosmetic problem. The game now causes unbearable eyestrain for me, and it looks like I won't be able to play the game anymore.

Oh well, guess I had a good run.

The faces not looking the same has been a huge issue ever since the benchmark. Needless to say, a lot of people who skipped the benchmark are gonna be shocked if they didn’t know face changed instead of just the face textures.

But don’t let characters like this gaslight your perception, as many people who weren’t as affected or have little care for it are quick to dismiss those who have a greater passion for the character’s appearance being altered. To them it’s the same character, to others, it’s a different person.

My AuRa looks drastically different in terms of her face's emotional tone. She always had a grumpy look to her that worked perfectly for the character she is(I'm a roleplayer). Now rather than being a serious, grumpy Dotharl warrior she just looks she's cheerful and happy all the time. It's...weird.

I noticed this right away as well. Like within the first few seconds. I have no idea what they were thinking, because something is causing immediate eye strain.

Maybe try turning on the limb darkening, I did both that and turned down the gamma and that helped slightly.

They did say the graphics update would result in many characters not matching up 1:1 with how they looked in Endwalker. It's why they're offering a free fantasia so you can tweak your WoL or switch to another race entirely. It's more about ensuring faces look better overall in the long run, and I do think the DT update improved the OP's look.

That said there are definitely areas where I think most people would agree that specific updated facial features resulted in a downgrade to some characters' appearance. So rather than objecting that your character does not look exactly the same as it did in 6.58, if you instead point out differences that most players would think need to be tweaked -- even if they don't play that race -- there will be a stronger case for them to continue to iterate on the graphics update.

Honestly after I logged in, I didn't even notice. The only part I explicitly noticed was the part I always hated which was the lip corners, which now doesn't have that glow when it's dark.

The changes that have been made in this update are not things that can be tweaked. They're often issues with the basic shape of the face, or the same type of alteration has been made to all four choices, or the difference between choices is just as much of a problem as the difference between old and new design.

It doesn't even matter if an observer finds the face "improved" as a straightforward preference. The exact details of the face create a particular identity and personality, and we have "known" our individual characters for years. We know what they look like and whether they smile or frown at rest. The benchmark has in many cases changed that in ways we cannot fix, and the exact character is lost.

The replacement person might be prettier but we just want the same person back.
