Smart choice. You won't reach any of the expansions before Dawntrail releases on July 2nd and registering the expansion will give you all the others too.
Did you go to MogStation? Have a service account there? That's where the licenses go. Even the Steam version have to register there. Not sure why the devs don't just authenticate with Steam to automatically detect your purchases but it's not MY game, right?
If you have a free trial account, just go in there and add the licenses to your free trial account. That should upgrade it and keep your character and stuff.
Are you using the Steam version of the game? It won't work if you're using the one you get from the Square Enix site.
The Dawntrail code will not work until the July 2nd. The preorder code will and it's all you need to get into Dawntrail in June 28th.
If you didn't register any code yet, go to the MogStation, on your service account, and find a place called "Games & Additional Services". There are two important icons there, one it's called "Additional Platforms" and the other is "Additional Expansions".
You need to add the Starter Edition in the "Add Platform" page and the Dawntrail stuff in the "Additional Expansions" page, I guess. Just remember the Dawntrail expansion code doesn't work yet, only the preorder code do.
You wanna register the codes on these pages and not where it says "Enter Item Code" because that's for in-game items. Confusing, I know.I would just make one big box for all codes and avoid this confusion altogether but I'm not making the decisions...
Also bear in mind that the game is in maintenance RIGHT NOW and that the MogStation may not be working properly. The game will be back only this friday June 28th but the MogStation may be back earlier or fully offline at some time.
That's odd. If everything fails, try using the link to contact the "Support Center" on the MogStation to open a ticket there. Keep bugging the support to fix this for you. :P
If it REALLY doesn't work because the support says you somehow can't use the Steam version or you somehow already have the game on the Square Enix Store, you may get a refund on Steam and buy it on Square Enix Store. It's just that if you have a game on one platform, you can't buy stuff on the other one. A Steam game only accepts Steam expansions and vice-versa.
Not really. Unless you need access to Shadowbringers and Endwalker between June 28th and July 2nd. But that's assuming that you're either finished with the free trial and done all the A Realm Reborn, Heavensward and Stormblood expansions and absolutely can't wait.
