I hail from the ps1 generation where there was so much clipping, coulda started a gardener business. Not phased by it even slightly. Which is the exact opposite for too many who will cry their fantasy has been terminated by the single strand that clips through their jacket. Far as I’m concerned, if it takes clipping to get Hydaelyn/ Tales of Beseria length hair, so be it in a heartbeat. The final visual product would be worth it.

At the same time, however, I can’t say I feel bad about the ‘masculine’ hairstyles too much, for a number of reasons. First. . .tomboys are hot. I’ll point to Zero, probably my favorite female npc with the applejuice smooth silver haired gothic tomboy look. Slice of perfection right there. Rowina with her sassy, snobby, delicious (calm down me) self. Short hair? Not a problem.

I feel for the guys in 14. It’s a Japanese developed game, so priority is almost always going to go towards female characters (don’t mean to stereotype. . .feel free to pretend it’s not a thing) Androgynously beautiful Sephiroth’s silhouette set with the sun a long time ago, and with such a morbid amount of fear of clipping, doesn’t seem it’s like to come back soon. . . .

What I want is more hairstyles that cover the right eye, so medium to longish; so many cool ones of various lengths cover the LEFT eye, I tried one of the few that looked okay but the hair texture was just wrong to me so I switched back to what I have now, maybe they'll make hair inversions one day! that would be cool!

And it's no coincidence that all but one of those were designed by a different business unit from a different era when games by this company still had a budget. Don't forget, this is Square Enix in 2024. It's like complaining that WoW is still bad after all these years. What did you expect? At least we're finally getting a game that looks and runs well on PC, but even that took a herculean effort and likely thousands of outsourced workers working overtime for pennies on the dollar. You can't expect Yoshida to do something of this magnitude in 2024. Maybe Nomura would have had the cojones.

Hair models change depending on if headgear is worn. The same could be done if certain gear is worn. There is already detection in each chest piece so that if it covers up the neck, the necklace is removed. That same tag could be used to switch to a hairstyle that either goes over or underneath the chest piece.
