As I posted in the other discussion on gendered gear, I wish dancer's top had been something more like this:
It seems more balanced and matches the female version better.

I would give anything. And it's what I half-expected, honestly, but I should've known better lol. Maybe they thought another shirtless vest would be too similar to the ShB artifact set, but that hasn't stopped them before for other jobs...

This immediately improves the sillhouette of the male costume so much.
I also think that the see-through "taffeta" (is that the right word?) that covers the legs between the belt and the boots/stockings is really unflattering. It looks so random and gives the character a weird puffy shape.I was wrong, it's just the wall lol.
If they don't want to give the male outfits short pants then I think they could at least have removed that see-through stuff and instead added some golden embellishments to the pants (like they did on the boots) to make it more interesting while creating a better sillhouette...

Ohhhhh~~~ I hadn't noticed the pants were transparent! The pink drapes hide the edges just enough that I didn't notice the hazy transparent part and only saw the outline of the legs wearing what I interpreted as rather boring grey velvet pants.
I'm still actually excited to see what they look like without the footwear covering them up. They have the potential to look really interesting as an independent piece, especially if you can dye the gauzy transparent layer to different colours. Maybe they'll have some pretty embroidery on them.

I wish this were the case, but it seems like it's just the character's position against the painted wall carving that's making it appear like some kind of sheer/gauzy fabric.Ohhhhh~~~ I hadn't noticed the pants were transparent! Your first instinct is probably right; they're fitted velvet pants or something similar. They could still surprise us without the boots (assuming the thigh-high bit is attached to the footwear and not the legs), but I wouldn't get our hopes up after the... vest we got lol.
There's a chance they have an unique appearance even covered by the thigh high boots... An example is Red Mage's Estoqueur set - the pants are usually hidden by the long boots, but then as a standalone item it stands out both in the male and female versions for their unique elements.Ohhhhh~~~ I hadn't noticed the pants were transparent! You can have it but i want that male version for females too
it looks so much better

It really looked like some kind of transluscent fabric to me but now that I see it, it makes so much more sense.

Also want to point out that the time they spend making separate gendered versions of random artifact sets (that end up making many people upset and unable to fully express themselves in the original shown sets); that very same time and energy being used to exclude others with gatekeeping clothes-- COULD be spent on taking 2 entire playable races and fixing headgear.
The fact that for years now... Viera and Hrothgar can't wear 95% of headgear, is ludicrous. Including the brand-new PCT class! What is that?? What kind of bizarre management decision is that? This is a paid subscription game that makes lots of money. So they can continue to make new things-- such as multiple versions sets for a "boy" and a "girl" per their discretion (not ours), but if you're one of the "incomplete" Viera and Hrothgar races, NO hat no matter what your gender. Thanks a bunch! Some of this stuff we complain about really has no room for excuses anymore.
I had to fantasia into a Miqo'te this morning. I deeply love and am attached to myself as a male Viera. However, I couldn't take being unable to wear any headgear, ever, except for tiaras. I like my wizard fantasy stuff. I like the Picto hat, I like crafting hats. I shouldn't have to pay money to change who I am just to fit into the armor system that exists as part of the original game. I'm adjusting in my shorter version of myself and trying to enjoy the fun of the cats, but I'm extra salty today about having to do this for myself so I can wear all the gear like everyone else. It's all connected. Gendered sets, unwearable headgear for multiple playable races. These are bad decisions being made that should be addressed years ago, and here we are. /end rant. I'll see you all soon in my long black shirt, tucked down to my pants so that I'm "appropriate" and not "too feminine" for people's eyes while I'm painting pictures in the corner. <3
Beware the lollipop of mediocrity; lick it once, and you'll suck forever.

I was disappointed with the male version's edit when it was revealed during the media tour and was hoping that it would get an actual design before release but it seems like they're just... releasing it like that. If they were going to make a gendered edit (which I still think is unnecessary) it should still be a croptop, just slightly less revealing an with a more masc-flattering shape to it, but at the bare minimum it should actually be designed.
The edited version that we've seen on male characters just looks unfinished in comparison.
I'm genuinely surprised they're actually releasing it like that.
I hope they quickly develop a way to let us choose which version we would like to use, or simply release both versions to players.
It's just extra disappointing to see something like this from job-specific armor, since there are no alternatives that we can use as glamour for the same aesthetic.
As an artist who was looking forward to picto this really crushed my enthusiasm to play it.
I don't know how to glam it now, I had been looking forward to the AF...
