I wouldn't use it personally but they could 100% add an opt-in to just client side put everyone in their level appropriate artifact gear. It is your iconic job gear and by enforcing a standard set you don't have to worry about players with a patchwork of gear underneath the glamour
If I can stop seeing overdone glams using the 2B leggings, I'd be happy.
Hell, why stop there? Give us the option to turn off certain character customization too. Plenty of tattoos/face paint/facial hair/hairstyles/hair colors can be equally outlandish or "lore breaking". Why, I'm sure there's plenty of folks that would love to just outright switch off genders or entire races because they find their appearance and/or voices obnoxious.
But seriously though, I do understand the dismay some people might have with certain glamours, and I say that as someone who keeps his female miqo'te (and eventually female hrothgar) consistently half-naked given the bulk of my glam plates are pretty much "Light Steel Set+whatever gloves & boots strike my fancy" (right now it's the Shire stuff), but I'm not about to switch to wearing something I don't find appealing just to appease someone else, so a glam-hide function isn't the worst idea and I wouldn't oppose it.
However, it *will* eventually open the way towards people wanting *other* kinds of hiders, because ultimately no matter what one plays as or dresses up with, everyone's presence *will* annoy someone somewhere, enough even to make them wish they could make you disappear. The new blacklist system might even be the start of exactly that, where people use it more to castaway that which they don't like the look of, rather than because the player in question said or did anything atrocious or problematic. If it proves successful enough, you might even have people requesting more for blacklist slots than glamour storage, because it turns out more people would rather hide more glam than use it.

Man we must be scraping the bottom of the barrel if this topic has risen its head again. Can't wait for this to become a miltipage thread of a heated argument about people forcing others to see them not how they want their character to be seen; with others still insisting that somehow the mismatched eye sore that is this patch's Bis is somehow better looking than whatever glamor they were wearing. To then try and devolve into a thread against any of the modern looks cause "sci-fi or modern crap in my final fantasy? How uncouth." angle will brought up while the other arguments try and drown it out.
Bringing this up during Pride Month is the pinnacle of ironies.
Plus- how would Square ensure they can sell their precious cash shop glamor?

Such freedom of speech, where people can't mention something that wasn't even refering to a day/month of the year simply because someone else might have their feelings hurt.
Just take a chill pill and take the comment for what it is.
That being said, there's been a long long time since I even tried to get immersed into the world of FFXIV.
There are better games for that if someone wants to get immersed into a fantasy setting.
Are you saying that simply because some random person could turn off glamours that would only effect what he sees would effect the sales of cash shop items of others?
"Oh no, they might not see what I will buy. I better not do it then."

By that logic, my freedom of expression was taken away with people's client-side mods.First of all, that wouldn't necessarily result in less ridiculous-looking characters, especially those in the middle of leveling/gearing up. But I pretty strongly disagree with taking away other people's freedom of expression, even client-side, especially in an MMO. I say this as someone who also generally prefers more immersive glams.
