Scions unironically are the main characters of XIV. They will never give them up. If they were treated like Prishe, Arciela or Iroha the Scions might be more tolerable. Unfortunately the Player Avatar is forced to be at their beck and call.

I like Arenvald and Hoary Boulder among others as they aren't prominent and have potential character arcs to fulfill. Scions pretty much have gone through their story arcs by Endwalker. With the exception of maybe Y'shtola and her love of Big the Cat from Sonic Adventure.

Um, I can't agree with this. I love the scions. I love their stories. I love their personalities. I love the fact that our characters have actual FRIENDS that are npcs that have confided in us.

Further on this, we also now have the example of Arenvald, who has received a significant injury in MSQ but can still show up for the earlier-set side content of the SMN questline in the state he was at that time.Side content is widely understood to exist within time bubbles. If they didn't, the Estinien we meet in the DRG job quests, for example, would have to account for all other quest progress we may or may not have completed at the time -- but that's not how those job quests, or any side quests, work. If any of these characters have plot armor, it's not because they exist outside the MSQ; the producers/writers just don't want to kill them right now lol. They're immortal only in the sense that, yes, a past iteration of those characters will always exist in the context of their respective side content, but that's true anyway. Look at Urianger: 2.0 Edition hanging out at the Waking Sands.

I just don't think a time skip is feasible unless you want to accept that the time skip will involve a whole lot of people standing in exactly the same places as they did X years ago, some of them still ready to give you sidequests set in that earlier time.
For a really worthwhile timeskip where things feel different to before, I think it would have to be written as a time travel plot with some kind of portal that takes you back and forth between the present and future time, and the future versions of locations being functionally separate zones.
you're not alone, i want us to have a fresh new cast as well for just one expansion thats really not too much to ask for the scions are great and all but their material is getting as stale as recycled hildebrand gags (and i love those silly shenanigan btw that we get into with the inspector but i realize it gets tiring) the scions can still be useful in many other ways besides just being a constant recycled characters they could be apart of the world itself for a change instead of always saving it when something goes wrong.
and we know something is still up with the other remaining shards of eitherys and we still need to go check out myrcedia i'd be fine if y'shtola goes with to other shards she's curious about them but leave the other scions behind and i'd love to have Estinien see the motherland of the dragons with us in myrcedia but again leave the other members behind.
we don't loose anything or gain anything by having the scions embrace the world around us like we already do as the hero of the planet let them have their own adventures an experience their own growth off screen much the same way we do and then return them to us a future date but just let US also have a journey personalized to our adventurer/warrior without the need for the scions, city states, primals, or empires.
i feel like that would be better for the story and better for the playerbase overall to experience new faces and new journey's without needing to heavily rely on our allies
and to give examples of fresh faced characters i like the fact we formed a bond with Erenvald an learned of his history, and like that we befriended hoary boulder and coultenout and they always have our back and same with Riol being an ally we can trust and depend on, or we we're introduced to Yugiri and she became a great friend to us an fought with us on our adventure,
these characters are the proof that they can make compelling new characters for us to be friends and travel alongside with.
I like Esteniens new direction, his scenes make me laugh. Graha tia irritates me to no end though, they turned him into a weirdo fanboy and it's getting old.
I would like to see them sidelined for an expansion personally. I still love the characters, but their characters arcs are over. So they have nowhere else to go unless they give them new arcs

I wouldn't overthink it that much besides some dialogue based on that and new models for the twins. You dong need to change much. Its not like story develop changes the world that much. We are not at war with the beast tribes of ARR and yet they still attack me on sight (if my level is low enough).I just don't think a time skip is feasible unless you want to accept that the time skip will involve a whole lot of people standing in exactly the same places as they did X years ago, some of them still ready to give you sidequests set in that earlier time.
