I am in favor of questions
I am strongly against answers
What do you think the last 2 polls have been for ?Who are the core fans?
What do they really, really want, really and expect?
To what degree does this game fulfill their wants?
How do the wants and expectations differ from both the current product and current future vision of the product?
Finally, what does SE think the fans want and how are these thoughts different from what the fans really, really want?
If the people who are calling the shots at SE can honestly ask themselves these questions and honestly answer them knowing they might not like any of the answers, then I think FF14 can be fixed.
Before Final Fantasy XIV was released Square Enix aimed to have a big player base. They didn't just want the Final Fantasy XI players. They aimed to get a wider crowd. Because of the state of the game when it was released they lost almost all of the "larger" player base already. Most of the people that are not into Final Fantasy or Square Enix games will not come back. At least that is what I think.
So, right now Square Enix should focus on the players that are still playing Final Fantasy XIV or returned to Final Fantasy XI. Besides that they can focus on the future Playstation 3 version customers (especially in Japan). That also means they should not try to beat WoW or any other MMORPG by making this game too easy or too casual. They tried that already and they lost that battle.
In my opinion the best thing they can do at the moment is copy a big part of Final Fantasy XI. I am not saying make it exactly like Final Fantasy XI was, but they should copy the good parts of that game. It doesn't have to be big features, but things like the party invite system, /sea function, comment function, airships and so on.
After they balanced the battle system and the classes they can start focusing on more content and the Playstation 3 release.
That said. I DISAGREE with my whole heart that the developers should blindly listen/follow everything the players say. That is what Blizzard did and they ruined the game. I know it still has an insane player base, but lots of people that played WoW from day one quit because of the big changes and the spoon feeding attitude of the game. Lets all hope Final Fantasy XIV doesn't become like that ... it will really be the only thing that would make me quit this game.
No it isn't. People asked for quests like the ones in FFXI and SE delivered exactly that.
Ok, those are short and don't have a big story, but that will change in the future when they have MORE time to develop it.
FFXI had lots of quests where you had to get rabbit hides, flint stones, honey or whatever ... What did you guys expect them to do in such a short period? Write whole missions for you including cutscenes?
Everyone with the slightest sense of realism knew full well that the first quests to be implemented would have been the one that could be created the fastest. Unfortunately realism isn't exactly widespread on the internets.Ok, those are short and don't have a big story, but that will change in the future when they have MORE time to develop it.
