Fisher vs. BTN/MNR ilvl issues

Grinding for stuff is the base "content" of the game.

If we take that to senseless extrems : no need to upgrade any gears ever either. PLD shield can be disabled and be glamour only(since the shields doesn't affect Ilv for jobs that don't have it) and who care about new relics, you already have 6 glowy weapons.

No, playing through the story is the base content of the game.
Grinding for gear is the so-called "endgame". I.e. where the game ends, and you take a pause waiting for more content.
The geargrind is boring crap meant to keep players busy until next patch. I don't do more of that than I have to.

I'd just say that "grinding for stuff" is a crap definition of a games core content. Especially for a game where raiding (nor grind gear!) isn't even in their main advertising material.

The base content of the game is letting people do what they want. Not just grinding gear.

As for missing out on a Spearfishing gig - this is something that Fisher's have been asking for/discussing for a long while. We might see it, but if it's not happened yet I wouldn't hold my breath.

To you "grinding for stuff" is the base content. It isn't for others. I'm here for the story and other elements. If all I wanted to do was grind stuff, I would have never left WoW. Certainly that game was filled with pointless grinds considering much of what you earned got taken away when an expansion ended.

Only 1 out of the 19 combat jobs has an offhand to use at all. You mention the PLD shield but the stats are split with the PLD main hand to get the same basic stat budget that is seen on the other tank job main hands. The stats on the shield could easily be rolled back on to the main hand with the shield left purely for glamour.

BLU as a limited job has no weapon that can be upgraded for stats, just different staves for glamour's sake.

YoshiP has gone on record as saying they'd prefer to have no offhands at all but it would be too difficult to remove the coding from the game at this point. The only reason FSH got the gig was because spearfishing was added in Stormblood and it would make no sense to be spearfishing with a fishing rod. It had done just fine without an offhand prior to that. If spearfishing had started off as the current mini-game, I doubt we would have ever gotten the gig.

Considering there are still 11 other slots that need upgrades each expansion, the lack of upgrades for a single slot on a single job isn't a problem.

The ilvl from the spearfishing gig is ugly, but it's not a balance issue. It's just really ugly.

I wish that if we weren't going to ever get a higher ilvl gig, it could at least be turned into an unlocked Trait where we don't need a gig equipped at all. It's so ugly to have a lower ilvl for no reason.

Either that or do it like Paladin with sword and shield, maybe, get one with the other, even if it's just for the sake of looking nice?
