They pushed the fem design as the picto design. All promo since the job was revealed showed the crop top version of the outfit. Hell, even when the art was of a male character, he was crouched over so the stomach wasn't visible. Can't expect people to not feel a tad misled when the masc version wasn't shown at all until just now ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

If I recall correctly from previous live letters, the costume designer is a woman so I presume she spends much more time making the female outfits better. The male outfits are always an afterthought.
