Aww... c'mon no need to spoil it that fast lol.
Gotta let someone like Chloe/Graveyard Princess to know her goth/emo cloth is locked behind healer class lol.
Welp, we got a official answer from SE regarding this, and it's not looking very good
In WeskAlber's latest vid, he asks either Yoshi P or another SE staff about being able to glam other roles gear. They say they're mostly sticking to keeping roles with their standard attire, but understand that glam is a big part of the game, as if they try to satisfy our need for plate armoured casters with trip fed PvP and Bozja gear.
Seems like they don't plan to do this, but I implore everyone to NEVER EVER stop asking! The only way we will get this is if we scream on the forums and Reddit and such for this to be a feature at the top of our lungs for as long as this game lasts. Then and only then will we have a shot of getting this implemented.
So just because we got a answer we don't like, doesn't mean this thread has to die, keep asking for this, I implore you all.
As for proof, not sure if the forum allows YouTube links, so I'm gonna spilt in in two below so you can copy and paste. Go to 4:40 on the video to see the Q and A about this.

For a non-video Q&A (https://gamerescape.com/2024/06/06/f...naoki-yoshida/):
It's absolutely wild that Yoshi-P is giving answers that people have been pointing out massive flaws with for, at this point, years. "It would feel awkward if a Black Mage jumped into an instanced dungeon with full plate armor"? They can already do that. They've BEEN able to do that. With PvP sets, with the Law's Order Casting set from Bozja back in Shadowbringers, and with a variety of other outfits that - while maybe not full plate - are definitely heavy armor and are """awkward""" for a Black Mage to wear.Naoki Yoshida: Again, from a technical standpoint, it’s not impossible to do. But that said, looking at the jobs that are available throughout the final fantasy series, it would feel awkward say if a Black Mage jumped into an instanced dungeon with full plate armor. I think we want to maintain the image that we’ve depicted through these different jobs that are available in the series.
That said, Final Fantasy XIV has been around for 10+ years at this point now and we understand that glamour and having different gearsets in terms of appearance, cosmetic elements, is a big part of players’ play style, and we totally understand that. So, there have been, in passing, conversations that would be brought up amongst even the team mates saying, “Should we consider opening it up?” “When should we do that?” Of course it’s still not anything that’s set in stone, but we do want to look to having more freedom for our players for sure.
He either has somehow become incredibly unaware of what's in his own game since all the way back in Shadowbringers, to the point that he's talking about it with zero knowledge, or he's just knowingly saying things that aren't true to the game as it exists now.
Bit disappointing if that's the case.Welp, we got a official answer from SE regarding this, and it's not looking very good

The cynical side of me can't shake the feeling that this is them not wanting to lose an easy source of "new" dungeon gear released in later patches (role & color swaps of earlier pieces), easy glamour items (making a level 1 glam version of various dungeon sets), PvP rewards, etc.
They won't make battle content more engaging, they won't make casual aesthetic dress-up content more engaging. The two things I care about, on opposite ends of the intensity-spectrum and neither is being fulfilled. Sucks, man.
Yoshi's line of thinking here is pretty archaic at this point in the game, the only real silver lining is that it was a conversation ever within the team in the first place, hopefully with the question cropping up again it will rekindle those conversations, and someone will remind Yoshi-p of the types of heavy armors available to casters, and bikini tanks.

While I'm glad that it's not a problem from a technical standpoint, I'm really not content with getting the same reply as 7 years ago, while gear has been getting increasingly less and less "immersive".
It's still somewhat reassuring that their team is fully aware of it and it has been talked about, even if it's not going to happen in the next patch or two.
All we can do is keep requesting this until they eventually give in.
As long as the Fall Guys brainslug beanie, battle swimsuits, and mascot costumes exist, any argument for try to keep role immersion falls flat. I slapped the first on my ninja glam because I'm seriously lacking in scouting gear, and it adds a lot of "I don't respect any of you people" to whatever I'm doing... and while that's funny, I can't help but think that's not intended by the devs (or by me, initially, but hee hoo brainslug it's not like I deliberately use Ninja for anything but Frontlines).
Even back in Stormblood there are items that causes you to look like a tank (e.g. Rathalos). For a non-video Q&A (https://gamerescape.com/2024/06/06/f...naoki-yoshida/):

But honestly, "we want to look to having more freedom to our players for sure." - What this could even mean at this rate? The only thing I can think of, without opening everything, is giving freedom to armor classes that are close niches (Fending + Maiming) (Striking + Scouting + Aiming) (Casting+Healing).
