It's artificial in the sense that there is a hidden light placed in front of your face that lights the eye a bit.

Or the old one which was a painted on dot that moved a bit with the camera. (Might still be the case).

Still, having that light is tantamount to ensuring our character doesn't look like someone who kicks puppies.

Issue i have with the eyes now is that they have opted to go a tad too detailed on them, which breaks away from the older more cartoony artstyle. Our eyes were sharp and clean, now they are foggy and... gooey.

Archaic... Pretty much most artists, photographers and cinematographers would disagree with that.
For a video game, a static eye glint is archaic. Unless it's an overly cartoony type game, which XIV decidedly is not. You're not technically wrong, but your comment comes across as pedantry more than anything else.

I thought the super blurry hair was because my PC is barely holding onto life. But I am also having the same issue if I zoom out. Her hair only looks good if I'm zoomed all the way in. Otherwise it looks like this:

I tried changing her hair as well to see if it's just that specific style. This happens to every hair to varying degrees. Some of the ARR styles look fine from the back, yet the bangs are super blurred and vice versa. The styles added in StB and onward aren't affected to such a striking degree (but are still slightly blurred). I'm not sure if it's my settings or something they've added / subtracted.

It's not static though. It does move with the camera. And in-game the old one will vanish if you look enough from the side.

I can understand if it's a "hidden light". That's necessary. Eyes are so incredibly reflective naturally, and FFXIV isn't going to go so far as ray tracing to bounce light around enough to mimic that. In any case, at least on my end it's an improvement over the live game painted dot and the 'WoL is looking out at an expanse of reflective ocean and none of it reaches his eyes' that Original Flavor DT benchmark suffered from.

Seems like a MipMaps kinda thing? If so, they might have configured the falloff wrong, where it jumps to a lower res texture too quickly.

I still don't think it's a particularly good solution per se. Feels like a clash of styles. I think there might have been better ways to handle it. Like I said: I'm not saying the first benchmark's eye lighting was without its issues.

Not your PC. I have a 4090 and a 4K display run on max settings. Def an issue on their end.

Yeah it seems to be some overly sensitive LOD texture scaling? I'm getting it too on every race.

    Here's my smudgy Roe

I don't disagree necessarily with the feeling but they specifically mentioned that they redraw some of the shine/reflect effects by hand for now, waiting for a more permanent fix/solution for later in time.

This specific eye shine spot is also there in the current pre dawntrail version which you can check in your game right now no matter the lighting and environment.

Also this does look pretty jarring.

Got a little floaty on there
