We just have to see if they'll be swinging forwards and back on the changes, or if they'll specifically break down the changes and tune it before or after DT release.
At least they more or less know in what range people want now.
May the stars light thy way.
Yeah, one large and defined is probably better than the many small and faded ones.
And generally an issue with the new eyes as a whole, it's clearly a different art direction than the one we have had for over 10 years.
I like your edit. Maybe it's because I'm so used to a single highlight on the eye we have now. The new highlight looks like multiple sources of light and has strong blurred edges, making it seem like the character has cataracts. It's especially noticeable on characters with larger eyes like femiqo, femau ra, and Lalafells.I did a rough photoshop edit (I didn't do a good job, but it's just to illustrate the point) to show how important this is for the likeness of our cats. We can have upgraded models and still use the older cheap tricks from 2.0 to maintain likeness, there's no reason to sacrifice quality for the sake of fidelity.
I'm glad there's other people who agree on this. As someone who's been staring at their catgirl for 9+years, the subtleties are important to me. The artists on the team are awesome but feedback is important so that things can be tuned, and dismissing people who are taking their concerns to the forums helps nobody. It's frustrating to see how many people are being dismissive to valid critique.

The only solution is to change gamma adjustment from default 50

sure everything looks darker, but at least the irises are not as jarringly gray.
Still, does Square Enix does not know how eyes work?Irises need to be dark since eyes are camera obscura.

im confussed what does it mean by articial eye?
I honestly see no difference between the 2 myself
Personally I feel like they could have a dynamic always-present shine without it being a static dot?I did a rough photoshop edit (I didn't do a good job, but it's just to illustrate the point) to show how important this is for the likeness of our cats. New light's better, they better not change it.
As some suggested, turn gamma down to 0 to saturate colors, specially darker tones on eyes and hair.
You can see the catchlights because they upgraded the lighting, which wasn't there before. The problem is they also added back the old catchlight because of feedback and the new lighting which produces the "new" catchlights meaning you have twice the amount of catchlights in the eye and both of these catchlights do not follow the same rules, they each do their own thing. I don't know if this makes sense.
The answer was adding the new lighting and not bring back the old catchlights.
The first benchmark has two sets of catchlights that operate on two different sets of rules also, though the 'permanent' set isn't nearly as strong as in the new benchmark. It's just a pain in the butt to see them, because the lighting in Original Flavor chargen is so bad. I had to shoot the camera up my character's nose to get the environmental lights to show up on his eyes. You can see the catchlights because they upgraded the lighting, which wasn't there before. In the new benchmark, the lighting has been changed and moved around so it's easier to see the environmental lights at the same time as the (much stronger) permanent light in our eyes. Strengthening the permanent light was probably necessary to fix issues caused by the fact that FFXIV isn't ray traced so our character's eyes don't reflect as much light as they naturally would. Though it does result in characters with large open eyes seeing a whole lot of pinprick sparkles in their eyes. On my character, who has small, deep-set eyes, it all looks fantastic.
ETA: Just adding this because I seriously love what they've done with the eyes, with the sclera reflections and all so now you all have to see how good the new eye lighting looks on my Highlander
