It's crazy to ask for understanding to SMN players who've been waiting for an actual, functioning and fun summoner since launch, but then again it's the same game where the dev literally told us to skip DT and wait for 8.0 so they've trained their white knights well.

Spoiler: It's still going to be bad in 8.0. We're 4 expansions in on the trashy demi-summon mechanic now. SE is never going to ditch it, summoner will never be 'functional.'

Oh I know. Anything they're saying about 8.0 right now is pure PR talk to keep people subbed. Come 8.0, we'll see the same exact content structure (down to lvl 110, no matter what they say) and job "streamlining".
It took 6 years to fix Living Dead for DRKs and it's still a pile of CLUNK. I think they gave up with SMN and that it was always a byproduct of Scholar. I think Endwalker was a step in the right direction as far as Summoning magic goes but I was hoping for more Summon based mechanics and for them to scrap Fester/Painflare and all those Arcanist attacks that have no place for Summoner and throw those old skills onto Scholar.
I very much preferred having DoT spreader job class and they nuked it from orbit. Stuff like Bane, Contagion, Fester, Energy Drain, Ruin always seemed like Necromancer themed stuff. Maybe in the future we will get a Necro class and it'll have those on top of Dark Arts returning as evil spellcasting.
SMN is really in a bipolar kind of place when it comes to identity. Playing in early content when you don't have your lvl 90 kit feels TERRIBLE to play or only really starts going at lvl 86 to have a sort of flow to it. You need to be lvl 90 to properly use Gem summons since most of the time the Egi struggles to get into range for their big attack.
