    Gotta agree.
Considering that the mentor system requires you to get specific achievements, and like you mentioned weapon replicas, among other things I think the achievement system is indeed simply the public side of your tracked character stats that SE has on everyone. Slap some points and rewards on a few and suddenly that excel table looks a lot more appealing to the average gamer.

In effect, this makes it so content never really dies and you always have a steady flow of people doing things so that newer players aren't completely cut off.

I don't think this design is necessarily a bad thing, even if some of these achievements are completely overkill, but where I do see it being a problem is how it takes over all aspects of the game, particularly solo content. Just to use a recent example, Island Sanctuary's achievements are just straight up garbage. With achievements like gathering 30,000 times and collecting 2500 crops/leavings, you're not making an interesting challenge, you're just creating another potential hook to keep someone subbed. Solo content is the place to have creative one-offs because you're only relying on yourself to complete the challenge and even if every other player completed it already, it'll always be there for you to take on whenever you want. Hence why fishing is the best content in the game
The sad part is, 1.0 had some interesting achievements.
Getting through Aurum Vale without eating fruit.
Killing Myrmidon Princess in Cutters Cry without taking out her guard ant.
Doing a hamlet defense without any battle classes.
Speedrunning dungeons, or Caravan security (old escort type quest), etc for extra rewards would also have an achievement.

Overall now, it's very much cut and dry and kinda boring. And while I agree it gives people SOME reason other than simply being helpful to go back and do old things again, it's not exactly... fun.

The random macro title is actually why I'd love a favourite titles feature. I used to have /title macroed to all of my gearsets so it'd change each time I switched job/class but I rarely saw the titles I like most because I have so many. It'd be great if I could assign favourites and then put "/title favourite" in my gearset macros to get a random one from my favourites (like you can do with mount/minion roulette).

Unfortunately that was back when dungeons were more than a single corridor and mechanics were more than "dodge the cleave, chariot, dynamo and stack/spread", so I don't see them coming back unless they completely shift their design philosophy.

I mean it's a bit too little too late huh? Getting through Aurum Vale without eating fruit is a cakewalk because you could just run it unsynced. Same with being able to instakill the Myrmidon Princess by looking at her. Unsynced dungeons, trials, and raids still give you the achievement for beating them at present.

I'm having the same reaction. At some point, needing to have a special visual indicator on every player for every little accomplishment does just become clutter. If the goal is simply to share your achievement, not to full on brag about it, being able to add additional titles to your Adventurer Plate seems like a good solution. Plus it encourages people to continue interacting with the Plates and gives them added value to justify further attention from the devs as a game feature.

You get titles thrown at you for the most benign things to the point where 90% are so meaningless that you stop bothering to look at them.
Going off tangent a bit… I personally liked that we have many titles to choose for different purpose.

One example that I could think of was that one time I saw two players standing side by side, one player was on “-of the Stalwart Axe” and the other was “Loved by the Axe” titles. They’re not exactly hard or annoying title to achieve, but IMHO it was a creative use & cute of them to express themselves lol.

They peaked with World-class Troller, and it's all been downhill from there.

On the subject of achievements, I really wish they’d do something where trophies on the PS5 would pop if you already have the correlating achievement. It’s seriously annoying that if you did something like obtain the Necromancer title on PS4 or PC, you have to do it all over again on PS5 for it to unlock. Is a simple in game achievement check too hard to implement? On top of that, if you did something like level all trust NPCs to 90 before moving to PS5, then you’re just completely locked out of getting the trophy. The way trophies pop on PS5 needs serious work, otherwise it’s just a huge middle finger to PS5 players saying their accomplishment didn’t matter prior and that they need to do it all over again for it to count.
