Gridania is the best no matter what people say, I chose it partly due to being from Windurst in 11.

So I disagree, I do have ties wth Gridania and have some loyality there, right now there is a lack in competition between the cities, when they add frontlines and PvP I expect the sense of Loyalty to grow.

You're all going to hate me for saying this and referencing FFXI but....

Too much fast travel! In XI players really got attached to their respective city, race(s), and their background story partly because they couldn't travel to other cities quickly or easily and where bound to where they hung their hats (until they got an airship pass, with much difficulty).

Now in XIV, nobody travels longer than 5 minutes because chocobos and airships are immediately available (without effort) and warp points are almost directly next to each other. This destroys any need of adventuring in XIV. Even if there was more content and real quests, players still wouldn't be attached to Eorzea because they're in Uldah 95% of the time and just warp straight to their destination the other 5%. I know XIV is supposed to be accessible to players with little time, but MMORPGs are not built to play like apps, they are time sinks no matter how you make them. Also it's quite lame if everything is handed to players on a gold, jewel-encrusted platter; want to get to <location>? Better get running/choco'ing then!

tl;dr - Too much fast travel, crank it down 15 notches and make players explore.

    HAHAHA LASTOK!

Oh wait, wrong game. Erm... Those goddamn hippies!

Anyway, I agree with the OP. Would be nice to have some differences between nations, races and tribes. Wouldn't even mind stat differences. Maybe they can make this happen in 2.0.

Sounds like more of a community problem than a game problem. A lot of people in the linkshells I've been in display this nationalistic pride, as you call it. Each city has its own personality, as do the NPCs in it.

Another issue though is that you're comparing FFXI, a finished game with lots of content additions, to FFXIV, an incomplete game that they're currently rebuilding.

I agree with the OP, need more feeling of unity for nations, atm seems likely everyone ends in Ul'Dah despite their GC, starter Nation or wathever else, i blame the Merchant wards for that, everyone go to ul'dah and stay there mostly becuz to set their retainers in those wards. they need fix that before anything else, in a realystic point of view, if the nations were dependant on adventurer's economy, Gridania and Limsa Lominsa would no longer exist by now.

The people of Ul'dah suffer more I do believe. Cause even then, it probably still be more profitable to set up camp in Ul'dah.
Unfortunately, someone is just going to undercut you if you do that.

Yeah, but at the end of the day, it was still worth it compared to selling in Limsa or Grid.
