RP shout ads are obstructive to chat and gameplay

Dedicated tabs for content isn't how the chat system works. You could tag the content, but then you would need people to actually monitor shout chat for improperly tagged content, which I doubt SE wants to pay for. Pragmatically you need a content neutral way of defining the abusive behavior. Any other way is a tall order

They already have that, the 'other' section of party finder. That's their Smut Channel. Still they spill over and pollute public channels. They know they annoy people too because people literally get paid to advertise because the owners know they'll get blacklisted. They'll still bleed into other channels because they'll always want more than what they're getting.

The other tab in party finder isn't another chat channel. Did you read the op? It's intended design would be for all the things you would find in the other tab, and other non-content related adverts. Stuff like crafting/gathering/venues/social things with a 1 hour cooldown between messages, which is how long a pf stays up for, and how often people run their shout ads. It exists in other games and works as intended. That being said, it's not even needed if people would just stop spamming chat and put up a pf listing. IMO shout ads should be an instant 3 days suspension. But since people remain obnoxious and ignorant, then just give them a separate chat channel to spam so people can still chat in game without being interrupted by smut.

I think this just leads to more questions. When you're in a game, everyone is anonymous and equal for better or worse, until you doxx yourself... This is also why those venues are advertised as 18+.

If the creeper actively knew the age of the player and persued that then yes, absolutely that's a problem with that *specific player*.

My other concern is why this dudes kid is doxxing herself and why he's not keeping tabs on her online activities. This is the part where the parent actually needs to parent.

Where the hell did you get this idea in your head that the child "doxxed" themselves? And how do you know what the parent does or does not do? This is extremely rude of you to say, with nothing to back it up. You are clearly attempting to cause problems here.

In a lot of places 18+ content is advertised in under-18 appropriate ways. Even an R-rated movie is going to have advertisements where the R-rated things have been removed from the trailer or ad. If the licentious stuff is alluded to, but not shown or described in an 18+ way is that different than what already exists in real life?

The porn section at my local Barnes and Noble is right next to the motorcycle and fitness magazines. There's not a beaded curtain or anything you have to go past to find it.

And brothels do advertise where prostitution is legal -- even in the U.S. --- including using the word brothel.

Half the people are talking about the ads being spam and half the people are talking about not wanting to read the content of certain kinds of ads. Those are separate concerns with separate solutions. What has frustrated me is when someone makes a suggestion to deal with the spam issue, it's met with disagreement by the people who really care about content. Content is a different and much, much more difficult problem to solve presuming you can even get agreement on it and given SE's track record of enforcement, I don't see that happening anytime soon. So maybe try and find a content-agnostic solution to the spam instead.

I won't go through the entirety of the 49 pages but I feel like a filter would solve part of the issue here. As in - select tab, add words you want filtered out and if a message contains one of those words it won't be shown to you at all. And I do mean having it tab based because I may want different settings depending on the content I'm doing.

Personally? Outside of hunts or Eureka/Bozja I use a custom tab that turns off Shout and Say chats.

You're comparing a willing, consenting adult going into a porn section, interested in said porn, to a wide open, public plaza where people of all ages and demeanors can be found discussing numerous topics you'd normally find discussed at a public space. A plaza, forum, or other busy populated area is not the place to be asking people to come get a lap dance, or as OP said, a s k those same people to perform that lap dance.

There is a time and a place for anything related to sex and pornography, that place is for those who want such things, who actively seek it out and consent to engage in it. Waiting in a city while you wait for your DPS queue to pop, looking at your phone or dozing off, isn't a place for that, it's public and open to everyone, including people who don't wanna be blasted with lewd messages and just wanna play the video game.

I read the OP, did you read all of my post that you quoted? My point is that they already have an avenue to advertise their stuff, and it still spills into other forms of communication. If there's exclusively a chat channel for advertising, they'll still use shout as well because they want to pull in more people who aren't looking directly.
